Box Score Brookville, N.Y. - (3/21/2015) – Battling their fourth consecutive nationally ranked opponent, Chestnut Hill College traveled to Brookville, New York, for today's East Coast Conference (ECC) challenge against #5 LIU Post. The Pioneers proved better prepared for the clash as they outscored the Griffins 6-1 in the opening frame and earned the league win by a decisive 18-6 final. Senior attack
George Markey (Branchburg, N.J.) and sophomore attack
Alec Dambach (Howell, N.J.) finally got the Griffin offense going in the third quarter, each finished with two points as did junior attack
Tanner Fisher (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia).
LIU Post (7-1, 4-0) scored the contest's first two goals just before the 13-minute mark (13:48 & 13:40) and periodically added four more over the next nine minutes; 6-0 at 4:02. Dambach put Chestnut Hill College (2-5, 0-3) on the scoreboard a minute (1:01) before the quarter break with an unassisted score, but the second quarter brought no relief as the Pioneers added six more tallies to make the deficit 11, 12-1, for halftime.
The home team initially pushed the gap to a dozen, 13-1 at 13:46, but Markey deposited the second Griffin goal a little more than two minutes later (11:22) to interrupt the Pioneers push, 13-2. An unfortunate penalty, helped them recover their momentum for two more goals which extended their lead to 13, 15-2, before a three-goal rush for Chestnut Hill College shrunk the margin to ten, 15-5 (4:25), heading toward the final minutes of the third quarter. Unfortunately, they would not score again until the final minutes of the fourth quarter and by then the Pioneers added three more to their total, 18-5, before Fisher netted his second score of the game with 20 seconds (0:20) left on the scoreboard, 18-6.
Four Pioneers scored three goals or more, senior attack Chris Caiazza (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) was top the best among them as he registered seven points (six goals and an assist) along with a ground ball and a caused turnover. Senior defenseman Dan Jeannotte (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) kept the LIU Post in possession of the ball with a 70.8% (17-of-24) success rate in the face-off circle, while junior goalkeeper Adam Winne (Ridgefield, Conn.) collected the win (7-1) with 11 saves in the first 47:12 of play.
Dambach and Fisher scored twice while Markey put a notch in each point category with a goal and an assist. The sixth goal was scored by senior
Francisco Barone (Cape May Court House, N.J.), who recorded his first collegiate goal as part of the Griffins third-quarter retort. Freshman goalkeeper
Thomas McDermott (Holmes, Pa.) and junior goalkeeper
Drew Lamela (Brick, N.J.) each played a half; McDermott (2-5) made five saves in the first and Lamela totaled six in the second.
The men's lacrosse team looks forward to a three game home stand, the first of which is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start opposite ECC rival Dowling College at the Plymouth Whitemarsh High School Football stadium on Saturday, March 28.
