Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (1/12/2016) – Saying that tonight's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest in Sorgenti Arena was a high-paced affair would be an understatement as Nyack College and Chestnut Hill College played at a dizzying pace that produced 47 turnovers, 68 free throws, and 94 rebounds in a 98-84 final that went the Griffins way. With plenty of stats to go around, five Griffins finished in double figures including a team-high 20 points from junior
Brittany McDonough (Brooklyn, N.Y.), a 17-point, 12-rebound double-double from sophomore forward
Nicole Parriski (Burlington, N.J.), and a 19-point, 11 rebound double-double from freshman forward
Jaeda Wildgoose (Somerset, N.J.).
The frenzy began as it ended, unpredictable, as one aggressive play led to another, propelling the meeting between Nyack College (5-10, 3-5) and Chestnut Hill College (6-9, 4-4) to a total of 182 points, the program's highest combined total points in a regulation contest. Searching for a lineup that could hold onto the ball, Coach West's Griffins wound up shooting 62.5% (20-of-32) to lead 48-32 at halftime. Wildgoose and junior forward
Caity Kuhnen (Binghamton, N.Y.) both scored 13 points in the half, the former hitting 6-of-7 (.857) from the floor, grabbing five rebounds, and providing an assist while the latter hit 3-of-3 from long range in addition to collecting six rebounds, and a helper.
As normal as the first half appeared, the second half moved twice as fast with each team breaking the 50-point plateau. Through the chaos, Chestnut Hill College advanced their lead to 20 points, 64-44, for the first time at 3:52 of the third quarter. Junior guard
Ayanna Holloway (Philadelphia, Pa.) pushed the deficit to a game-high 26 points, 71-45, with 1:25 remaining in the frame and at the end of the third quarter break it held at 25 points, 75-50. The seemingly insurmountable margin was in fact that, but it did not endure without threat as the Warriors trimmed the final spread to 14 points, 98-84.
Senior forward Jamie McKeither (Laurel, Md.) scored 20 of her team-leading 22 points in the second half. She paired her scoring with 13 rebounds and a steal. Two other Warriors joined her in double figures as sophomore guard Kelli Smoot (Baltimore, Md.) totaled 21 points and senior guard Raven Makins (Laurel, Md.) recorded 11 points. Smoot added three rebounds, six assists, and two steals to her scoring, while Makins additionally registered four rebounds, three assists, a block, and three steals.
McDonough scored at least 20 points for the third time this season, leading the Griffins in points for the fourth time. She was 6-of-12 (.500) from the floor and 8-of-9 (.889) from the free throw line while accumulating five rebounds, three assists, and a block. Parriski and Wildgoose did the dirty work under some busy boards; Parriski added a block and two steals to her second double-double of the season which came consecutively and in compliment to Wildgoose's, who also recorded an assist and a block. Mary Trossi (Somerset, N.J.) totaled 16 points, five rebounds, five assists, a block, and two steals.
The women's basketball team looks to extend their recent winning streak to four games on Monday, January 18, when they return to Sorgenti Arena to host Philadelphia University in a 6:00 p.m. CACC contest.
