Box Score Bloomfield, N.J. - (1/22/2016) – Chestnut Hill College played catch-up the entire evening as, Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North-leading, Bloomfield College used their size advantage and seven first-quarter turnovers to establish a 25-7 lead at the close of the first quarter. With a united effort, the Griffins made up some ground in the second quarter, 34-20, but an evenly played third quarter left the Scarlet and Gold scrabbling in a 65-48 league final. Caity Kuhnen (Binghamton, N.Y.) headlined the trio with 13 points and freshman forward
Jaeda Wildgoose (Somerset, N.J.) best supported her double digit performance (12 points) with a team-high nine rebounds and a block.
Chestnut Hill College (6-11, 4-6) was competitive at the start, 7-7 (5:55), but hot on the trail of her 1,000
th career point, senior guard Ariel Wilson (Chesapeake, Va.) caught fire early. She scored a layup and two three-point baskets in a 10-0 run that eventually became an 18-0 slide heading to the second quarter, 25-7. The Griffins answered with the first three baskets of the succeeding period, adding a free throw from sophomore forward
Nicole Parriski (Burlington, N.J.) to reduce the deficit back to 11 points, 25-14, before the midway point of the frame (6:43). But Wilson struck again, scoring five more points in a 9-6 stretch that left the halftime spread at 34-20.
Each side scored 19 points in the third quarter, giving the Griffins a hard hill to climb in the final frame, 53-39. With a layup, freshman guard
Mary Trossi (Somerset, N.J.) cut the spread to its smallest margin, 58-46, heading to the five-minute mark (5:16). Unfortunately, a three-point play from Chyna Golden (Neptune, N.J.) quickly returned the momentum to the Bears' favor, spiriting the home side on a 7-2 closing run.
Although Wilson was the clutch performer, it was junior guard Tianna Smith (Spring Valley, N.Y.) who led the Bears with 17 points. She also recorded six rebounds, three assists, and a steal while Wilson added four rebounds, two assists, and two steals to her 13 points. Golden added seven points to her team-high 13 rebounds, which anchored a 48-44 advantage on the boards.
Kuhnen hit three, three-point baskets (3-of-10, .300) in her seventh straight double digit performance. She also recorded three rebounds and two steals in the process. She and Wildgoose were joined in double figures by Trossi, who finished the contest with 10 points in addition to six rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
The women's basketball team looks to rebound on Tuesday, January 26, when they welcome Goldey-Beacom College to a 6:00 p.m. league contest.
