Dickson Dominates Second Half, But Clippers Endure Griffins on Last-Second Inbound

1/9/2016 5:10:00 PM

Box Score Bronxville, N.Y. - (1/9/2016) – A last-second inbound play won this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest for Concordia College (NY), as the Clippers capitalized on a late Griffin turnover to succeed in an 84-83 final. Elusive at times this season, senior guard Luke Dickson (Pitman, N.J.) scored 26 of a season-high 28-points in the second half, weaving through the Clipper defense and connecting on five three-pointers (5-of-10, .500) for a second time in as many games.

Concordia College (NY) (6-10, 3-4) led a majority of the contest, surrendering the lead to Chestnut Hill College (6-9, 3-4) on a Dickson three-point basket that delivered the Griffins a 81-80 advantage heading to the final minute of play (1:04). After a Clipper layup, sophomore forward Edward McWade (Wildwood, N.J) returned the Griffins to the lead, 83-82, with 28 (0:28) seconds to play. The Clipper's following three-point attempt found its way out of bounds, granting the Griffins a valuable possession. But the tables turned on an ill-timed turnover that rewarded Concordia College with an inbound opportunity that decided the conference rivals' fates.

Behind sophomore forward Elijah Brown (Springfield, N.J.), the Clippers controlled the first half with a more efficient offense (50.0%-44.1%) performance that came with a 6-of-13 (.462) three-point effort and a 12-of-15 (.800) free throw showing. Brown's 16 points off the bench presented Concordia College with a 46-35 halftime advantage that inspired the Griffins for a second half revival. Dickson was the spark, bringing the Scarlet and Gold even at 60-60 midway through the period (9:13) and keeping them neck-and-neck with the Clippers in the closing minutes.

Headlining five Clippers in double figures, Brown came off the bench for 18 points, four rebounds, and an assist. His offensive production was matched by freshman forward Stephen Milhaven (Port Washington, N.Y.), who added eight rebounds to his 18 points. Junior guard Jalen Heath (Joliet, Ill.) contributed 14 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and three steals while senior forward Peter Aguilar (Bronx, N.Y.) provided 11 points, two rebounds, and a block. Sophomore guard Michael Fields (Queens, N.Y.) was the fifth Clipper in double digits, recording ten points in addition to two rebounds, an assist, a block, and a steal.

Dickson was 9-of-17 (.529) from the floor and 5-of-7 (.714) from the free throw line in his command performance. He also grabbed a rebound and provided two assists in the effort. McWade finished with 11 points, three rebounds, an assist, and a steal, while freshman guard Liban Awl (Manassas, Va.) came off the Griffin bench for 10 points, a rebound, and an assist.

The Chestnut Hill College men's basketball team returns to Sorgenti Arena on Tuesday, January 12, to host Nyack College in an 8:00 p.m. CACC contest.
