Chestnut Hill College Opposes Post University In Opening Round of CACC Championship Tournament

New Haven, Conn. - (11/14/2016) – Sporting three All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) performers for the second year in a row, the Chestnut Hill College women's volleyball returns to the CACC Championship Tournament for the first time since 2011. As the #4 seed in the CACC South Division, the Griffins visit #1N Post University for a 7:00 p.m. Opening Round match tomorrow, Tuesday, November 15. The other quarterfinal matches include #3S Holy Family University at #2N Bloomfield College, #4N Nyack College at #1S Philadelphia University, and #3N Caldwell University at #2S Georgian Court University; all are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. opening serves.

Philadelphia University (26-4, 18-1) and Post University (25-4, 17-2) and earned the top seeds in their respective divisions for the second consecutive season. The Lady Rams, who serve as the #1 overall seed in the championship, offered the league's best overall and conference records with their 26-4 all-inclusive mark and their 18-1 CACC South-leading member record. The Eagles powered to a 25-4 overall record and a 17-2 league standing behind the guidance of CACC|BSN Sports Coach of the Year, Mike Brienza, and the play of three-time CACC Player of the Year, senior middle hitter Skylar German (Kansas City, Mo.). Both teams placed a total of four student-athletes on the All-CACC Team.
 
Chestnut Hill College (13-15, 11-8) found their way back to the CACC Championship Tournament behind the dig-set-attack combination of senior libero Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.), sophomore setter Kennedy Sutton (Chesapeake, Va.), and senior middle hitter Emily Koehler (Bath, Pa.). Trabosh, a four-time All-CACC performer, ranked second in the CACC for total digs (591) while additionally offering four kills, 52 assists, and 26 aces. Sutton offered the league's highest point total for a setter with 95 kills, 23 aces, and 31 block for 135 points, while her 913 assists to ranked fourth in the league for helpers. Koehler was the Scarlet and Gold's most efficient hitter and lead blocker as the frontcourt finisher totaled 237 kills on a team-high .284 (237K-69E-592TA) hitting percentage and provided a team-high 81 (22 solo, 59 assisted) blocks for 288.5 points. The trio directed the Griffins to a 13-15 overall record and an 11-8 CACC mark that earns them their trip to Waterbury, Connecticut.

Following Tuesday's quarterfinal matches, Wilmington University will serve as host for the semifinals and final rounds of the 2016 CACC Championship Tournament. They respectively take place at 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 19, and 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 20. The champion will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament.
