Chestnut Hill College (11-13, 8-8) took the lead away from Dominican College (9-16, 8-8) for good with 12:14 remaining in the opening half as a three point basket from freshman guard
Liban Awl (Manassas, Va.) delivered the home team a 9-7 advantage. Capitalizing on the Chargers' 19.2% (5-of-26) first-half shooting effort, the Griffins first advanced their lead to seven points, 18-11 (9:26), on a jumper by junior forward
Gerald Evariste (Philadelphia, Pa.) before taking a 23-15 lead into the locker rooms.
After intermission, the Griffins wasted little time improving their position as a McWade three-pointer pushed the deficit to double digits, 33-23, with 14:34 still to play. The difference reached its maximum, 15 points (48-33), on a Hightower layup with 9:24 to play and later settled at 14 points, 60-46, on a last-minute (0:52) free throw from sophomore guard
Demetrius Isaac (Philadelphia, Pa.).
Sophomore forward Gerrel Irvin (Bay Shore, N.Y.) was the cornerstone of the Charger effort with 12 points, 10 rebounds, an assist, two blocks, and four steals. Junior guard Kristopher Hargraves (Teaneck, N.J.) provided the most support with five points, seven rebounds, an assist, and a steal.
Hightower was 4-of-6 (.667) from the floor and 4-of-9 (.444) from the free throw line in his fourth double digit effort of the season. With Isaac recording six points and Awl another eight, the Griffin bench played a large role in the victory.
