Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (2/13/2016) – Even a brief fourth-quarter power outage could not slow down the Scarlet and Gold this afternoon as Chestnut Hill College won for the fifth time in their last six games, finishing off the last 3:35 of today's 76-55 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory with the use of cell phone stop clocks and a flip-score. Five Griffins finished in double figures with 16 points from freshman forward
Jaeda Wildgoose (Somerset, N.J.) leading the way.
The afternoon started off like any other as Chestnut Hill College (11-12, 9-7) used a 22-6 second-quarter burst to overcome a 18-13 first-quarter deficit and separate for a 35-24 halftime advantage. Dominican College (11-14, 7-9) spread the ball around in the opening frame, scoring the contest's first basket on a layup from junior forward Lisa Boufford (Wallkill, N.Y.) just 15 seconds (9:45) after the tip and breaking away from the Griffins in the final 4:15 after a jumper by Nicole Awoonor-Renner (Mount Vernon, N.Y.), 11-9. Senior guard Deja Gabbidon (Teaneck, N.J.) kept the margin at four points, 15-11, with 1:32 to play in the quarter and following a Wildgoose jumper, a Lady Charger three-pointer left the first-quarter spread at five points (18-13).
But the Griffins changed the game's complexion in the second quarter as they held the Lady Chargers scoreless for the opening three minutes, reducing the visitor's advantage to four points, 22-18, just past the seven-minute mark (6:55) and capturing the lead for good just two-and-a-half minutes later (4:24), when sophomore forward
Nicole Parriski (Burlington, N.J.) was rewarded for a monster block with a fastbreak layup courtesy of junior guard
Caity Kuhnen (Binghamton, N.Y.), 25-24. The reversal of fortunes was followed by five consecutive Griffin scores as a jumper from Wildgoose, (27-24 @ 3:48), a three-pointer from junior guard
Brittany McDonough (Brooklyn, N.Y.) (30-24 @ 3:04), a Parriski jumper (32-24 @ 2:11), a Parriski layup (34-24 @ 1:20), and a backend Parriski free throw left the Scarlet and Gold with an 11-point halftime advantage, 35-24.
The Lady Chargers were never able to better their standing, falling behind by 20 points, 53-33, with 35 seconds (0:35) left in the third quarter and as many as 24 points, 61-37, early in the fourth quarter (8:13). Boufford led the Lady Chargers with 16 points, four rebounds, an assist, and two steals while Gabbidon gave her plenty of support with 14 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and three steals. Sophomore guard Rebecca Rabeiro (Midland Park, N.J.) chipped in 10 points, two rebounds, and three assists.
Wildgoose was 7-of-11 (.636) from the field and 2-of-2 (1.000) from the free throw line in her 20
th double-digit performance of the year. She also recorded five rebounds and two assists in the process. Kuhnen followed with 15 points, six rebounds, four assists, two blocks, and a steal while freshman guard
Mary Trossi (Somerset, N.J.) totaled 14 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and a steal. McDonough and Parriski both finished with 11 points; the former providing seven rebounds and five assists to her offensive production as the latter combined her double-digit scoring with six rebounds, a block, and a steal.
The action continues on Thursday, February 17, when the women's basketball team travels north on US Route 1 to Holy Family University for a 6:00 p.m. league contest versus the Tigers.
