Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (2/23/2016) – Chestnut Hill College looked to take down their second straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) postseason bound team in as many games, as the Griffins forced overtime in this evening's league contest at Philadelphia University. Unfortunately, the Lady Rams outscored the Scarlet and Gold 14-9 in the extra frame to win the season finale by an 83-78 margin. Yet, a Holy Family University 76-64 victory over Wilmington University secures Chestnut Hill College thier first-ever CACC postseason berth as the #4 seed in the CACC South and a CACC Opening Round contest at #1N Bloomfield College on Saturday, February 27. Mary Trossi (Somerset, N.J.) had another big game for the Griffins, invoking the overtime period with her last-second (69-69, 0:04) jumper, and setting her career-high scoring mark in consecutive games with 29 points.
The Lady Rams' fourth-quarter lead hovered around five points for most of the frame and settled a six points, 65-59 at 3:26, before collapsing to two points, 67-65 at 1:38, after three-pointers from junior guards
Caity Kuhnen (Binghamton, N.Y.) and
Brittany McDonough (Brooklyn, N.Y.), and eventually to zero, 69-69 at 0:04, on Trossi's heroic jumper. In overtime, however, Philadelphia University (22-6, 18-1) quickly jumped out to a four-point, 73-69 (3:59), lead. After a couple of baskets from senior forward Mary Newell (Lansdale, Pa.), they made their free throws to expanded their advantage to as many as seven points, 78-71 (0:35), in the closing minutes.
After trailing 38-31 at halftime, Chestnut Hill College (12-13, 10-8) made the difference on the glass, winning the rebound battle, 21-14, and wearing down the Lady Rams over the third and fourth quarter. Trossi continued to produce as she scored 13 of her 29 points in the latter half, meanwhile, Milligan, sophomore forward
Nicole Parriski (Burlington, N.J.), and freshman forward
Jaeda Wildgoose (Somerset, N.J.) gave the Griffins the extra possessions they needed to catch the Lady Rams by the end of regulation.
Other than Trossi's game-tying bucket, Philadelphia University led the whole way. Newell led three Lady Rams in double figures with 22 points. She also recorded seven rebounds, one assist, one block, and five steals. Fellow senior forward Tori Arnao (Newtown, Pa.) finished with 17 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals while freshman guard Jessica Kaminski (Philadelphia, Pa.) offered 16 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and a block.
Trossi was 10-of-19 (.526) from the field, 2-of-4 (.500) from three, and a perfect 7-of-7 (1.000) from the line despite her season success rate of 58.9% (76-of-129). She also recorded five rebounds and six assists. Wildgoose contributed the sixth double-double of her rookie campaign with 11 points and 11 rebounds. She additionally reported two assists and a block. McDonough totaled 14 points, a rebound, and three assists. Off the bench, Pariski contributed eight points, 10 rebounds, an assist, and a block.
