Women’s Tennis Falls One Win Shy of Crimson Hawks

Box Score | Indiana, Pa. - (3/25/2016) – Continuing a string of hard-fought defeats, Chestnut Hill College took a 5-4 loss today, Friday, March 25, at Indiana University (Pa.). The Crimson Hawks rallied from a 2-1 double deficit to overcome the Griffins in singles play with a trio of mid-round victories. Juniors Laure-Anne Josso (Vannes, France) and Lara Scholtze (Bod Hamburg, Germany) each collected wins in both formats.
 
Chestnut Hill College (11-6) book ended an Indiana University (9-0) win a number three doubles, 8-1, with matching 8-3 team wins at number one doubles and number two doubles. Scholtze and senior captain Iman Williams-Mulesa (Pickering, Ontario) picked up the victory in the top team flight while Josso and senior Axé Owens (Trenton, N.J.) were the victors at number two doubles.
 
The Griffins left the doubles round with a 2-1 advantage, but after a 6-4, 6-1, victory at number three singles the match was match was quickly evened at 2-2. Josso gave the Griffins their edge back with her 6-3, 7-6, win at number one singles, 3-2, but the lead did not last long with the Crimson Hawks mounting victories at number five singles, 6-1, 6-1, number four singles, 6-3, 6-3, and number six singles, 6-2, 6-1 (5-3). Which left Scholtze's 3-6, 6-4, 6-1, triumph at number two singles in vain, 5-4.
 
The Chestnut Hill College women's tennis team returns to campus tomorrow, Saturday, March 26, for a 12:00 p.m. match with the University of the District of Columbia.
