Griffins Celebrate Senior Day With Duplicate Wins over Marauders

Men's Box Score | Women's Box Score | Philadelphia, Pa. - (4/21/2016) – Playing their last regular-season match on the Chestnut Hill College tennis courts, seniors, Iman Williams-Mulesa (Pickering, Ontario), Axe Owens (Trenton, N.J.), Hayley Craskey (Aston, Pa.), Henry Boyle (London, England), and Kevin Taylor (Burlington, N.J.) led their respective teams to duplicate 9-0 victories over Millersville University. Among the seniors, Williams-Mulesa is a three-time All-CACC performer and three-year captain, who along with Owens joined the Scarlet and Gold's 100-win club this year, while Taylor rests one win shy of joining Manuel Ceniceros '14 and Michael Humes '15 in the men's century club.
 
In the women's match, Chestnut Hill College (14-9) concluded their season on a high-note with a 9-0 win stemming from a nearly-flawless round of doubles play. Owens and junior Laure-Anne Josso (Vannes, France) surrendered the Griffins' only point of doubles play in their 8-1 triumph at number two doubles. Their win was followed by 8-0 victories at number three and numbers one double. Singles play stayed in the Griffins' favor with six more wins precipitating the shutout. Williams-Mulesa was first with her 6-0, 6-0, win at number two singles. Next was sophomore Lara Scholtze (Bod Hamburg, Germany) at number one singles, 6-3, 6-0. Craskey followed in the fourth flight, 6-0, 6-0, and her success was trailed by Owens' 6-4, 6-2, at number three singles, junior Louise Charley (St. Jean de Luz, France) at number five singles, 6-0, 6-0, and freshman Daniela Sequeira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) at number six singles, 6-2, 6-3.
 
On the men's side, things went much the same with a trio of 8-1 Chestnut Hill College (13-6) wins coming in reverse order. Freshman Adam Gavin (Gothenburg, Sweden) led off the singles round with his 6-0, 6-0, win at number one singles. Freshman Lucas Abe (Duderstadt, Germany) was next at number two singles, 6-0, 6-1. Boyle followed in the third flight, 6-1, 6-3, the freshman Daniel Awad (Cartagena, Colombia) at number six, 6-0, 6-0, freshman Alejandro Robles (Madrid, Spain) at number 6-0, 6-0, and Taylor at number four singles, 6-4, 6-2.
 
The Chestnut Hill College women's tennis team stands at 14-9 as they await the announcement of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) East Regional Tournament, while the men conclude their regular season at 13-6 with the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Tournament beginning on their home courts this Saturday, April 23. The #2 Griffins are scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. semifinal match versus #3 Philadelphia University.
