Box Score New Castle, Del. – (5/12/2016) – The pressure mounted with the passing of each scoreless inning at Wilson Field; six of them went by before #1 Felician University broke the silence in the third game of this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Quarterfinal. The Golden Falcons turned a seventh-inning, lead-off walk into a pair of runs which held up against #2 Chestnut Hill College (2-0) thanks to the play of freshman pitcher Jason Polgano (Bronx, N.Y.), who only allowed the Griffins four hits and one walk over nine innings of shutout baseball. Continuing their success from the Griffins' first game at the CACC Championship Tournament, junior center fielder
Brandon DiBona (Southampton, Pa.) and junior shortstop
Jonathan Baturgil (Freehold, N.J.) each recorded a hit.
Senior first baseman
Patrick Campion (Norristown, Pa.) walked with one out in the first inning. DiBona led off the third inning with a single deep in the hole at short. Then Campion singled to first base with a well-placed bunt in the fourth inning, before freshman catcher
Eric Gilham (Deptford, N.J.) singled to center field with two out in the fifth inning and Baturgil singled to third base in the sixth inning. But Chestnut Hill College (25-21) was never able to move a single runner to second base against Polgano (7-1), who struck out three for the Felician University (30-19) in a must-win game for both sides.
Sophomore
Patrick Kelley (Pipersville, Pa.) took the loss (6-4) for the Griffins, despite only allowing one earned run on four hits and six walks. He struck out seven in six innings of work. Freshman
Dino Cattai (Philadelphia, Pa.) served as his relief. He held the Golden Falcons scoreless over the final two innings and struck out four.
Chestnut Hill College finishes the 2016 season at 25-21 overall and placed second in the CACC regular-season standings with a 14-6 league record. The Griffins routinely received votes in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) East Regional Poll before ranking at #10 in the most recent installment (5/9/16). The Scarlet and Gold placed six players on the All-CACC Second Team, including senior left fielder
Brendan Looby (Sewell, N.J.) who completes his collegiate career as the program's all-time hit leader (184).
