Box Score Bronxville, N.Y. - (10/14/2017) – Chestnut Hill College lost a heartbreaker today at Concordia College (NY), where after 70 minutes of scoreless soccer the Clippers netted a pair of goals to steal the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) prize, 2-0. Senior midfielder
Joseph Casaletto (Sewell, N.J.) and senior forward
Zachary Gray (West Sussex, England) recorded three shots apiece in a 10-8 Griffin shot advantage, while freshman goalkeeper
Sergio Hernandez (Ossining, N.Y.) made two saves to keep the Scarlet and Gold in the hunt.
Chestnut Hill College (4-10, 3-7) controlled the early action, finding Gray for a strike off the Concordia College (4-8, 2-7) crossbar at 4:32 and offering respective attempts from senior midfielder
Vini Brito (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Casaletto at 10:39 and 21:36. But the opening period ended in a 0-0 stalemate and was followed by an even more competitive second half. There, Brito sailed one high before shots from senior forward
Mike Buscemi (Rockville, Md.) and Gray missed their marks. It would be a turnover in the Griffin backfield at 70:23 that gave the Clippers the opportunity they needed as sophomore forward Sergio Matias (Ossining, N.Y.) capitalized on the error to give the host the lead, 1-0. The Scarlet and Gold tested Concordia College during every second of the remaining 20 minutes of play, but the Clippers added an insurance tally at 88:45 (2-0) to put the Griffins' rallying effort to rest.
Matias was one of two Clippers with multiple shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Jaime Gonzalez (Madrid, Spain) made two saves in the win (4-7). Sophomore defenseman
Michael Roscioli (Turnersville, N.J.) recorded the remaining Griffin shot.
The Chestnut Hill College men's soccer team returns to the Campus Field on Tuesday, October 17, for a 3:30 p.m. CACC contest versus local rival, Jefferson University.
