Philadelphia, Pa. - (11/28/2017) – On the precipice of their home schedule, the Chestnut Hill College women's basketball team is pleased to announce their promotional schedule for the 2017-2018 season. Community engagement events are planned for several home games throughout the season, including a Military Appreciation Night at Jefferson University, Pack the Place, a Red-Out for Heart Disease, Alumni/Senior Day, Play 4 Kay, as well as tonight's Go 4 the Goal, Lace-up for Pediatric Cancer event.
Tuesday, November 28 (6:00 p.m.) vs. Bloomsburg University: Beginning tonight's 6:00 p.m. home opener versus Bloomsburg University, the Chestnut Hill College will host several promotional nights, designed to bring awareness and support to various organizations and important causes. In partnership with the Go4theGoal Foundation, the Chestnut Hill College women's basketball team joins thousands of teams across the country to support the children who suffer from pediatric cancer by lacing up in Go4theGoal's gold laces. All funds stay in the community where they are raised to support local children. Additionally, in support of the upcoming Military Appreciation Night at Jefferson University, the Griffins will be collecting canned goods and winter coats throughout tonight and Saturday's doubleheader action.
Tuesday, December 5 (6:00 p.m.) @ Jefferson University: The Military Appreciation Night will take place on Tuesday, December 5, at Jefferson University, where the Griffins will join the Lady Rams in an evening of honor for the armed forces. A retread of last year's memorable event in Sorgenti Arena, this year's community engagement will be a joint effort between the Chestnut Hill College and Jefferson University women's basketball programs. Prior to competition, both teams will don camouflage warm-ups in their traditional school colors to show support for the veterans of our various military branches and participate in a vigilant rendition of the "Star Spangled Banner". Throughout the contest, canned food and coat donations will be accepted for the Philadelphia Veterans House and at halftime there will be a special ceremony to honor the veterans in attendance. Wednesday, January 24 (6:00 p.m.) vs. Jefferson University: The Scarlet and Gold's second meeting with Jefferson University will serve as their Pack the Place event. In a race for the coveted Griffin Cup, Chestnut Hill College student-athletes are encouraged to attend in support of their fellow Griffins.
Wednesday, February 7 (6:00 p.m.) vs. Georgian Court University: About 125 athletes under the age of 35 die from an enlarged heart, or hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, each year in the United States. The condition is often missed due to poor medical screening. Therefore, in support of the American Heart Association (AHA), the Chestnut Hill College women's basketball teams will take a stand against heart disease during their February home games against Georgian Court University with a "Red-Out". Members of GriffinNation are encouraged to participate and wear red in support of the cause. The women's basketball teams will be selling the official "Red-Out" t-shirts outside the cafeteria prior to the contest. Donations to the cause are also welcome. Saturday, February 10 (1:00 p.m.) vs. Caldwell University: A "once-in-a-lifetime" moment for any student-athlete, Senior Days serve as a homage to those Griffins who have devoted so much of their time and energy to their sport. Typically held on the final home game of the season, Senior Days are an opportunity for seniors to be honored one last time in front of their home fans. This year, in addition to recognizing their seniors, the Griffins also welcome back their alumni for a special day of program comradery.
Saturday, February 24 (1:00 p.m.) vs University of the Sciences: An annual event, formerly known as the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) "Pink Zone" and "Think Pink", Play4Kay is an initiative of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, a charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved, and unifying people for a common cause. The Chestnut Hill College Play 4Kay fundraiser will cover Sorgenti Arena in pink as student-athletes, coaches, game-day staff, and officials, alike, will don pink t-shirts, shoe laces, and whistles as a sign of solidarity for the fight against women's cancers. A donation box will be present at the admissions table for those who which to monetarily contribute to the initiative.
