Vicky Tumasz (North Wales, Pa.) solidified today's 77-53 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win over Goldey-Beacom College. Chestnut Hill College had a few close calls along the way, but with Tumasz's spectacular offensive performance, double figure scoring performances from sophomore guard
Cailey Gibson (Marlton, N.J.) and
Cassie Sebold (Willow Grove, Pa.), and a suffocating Scarlet and Gold defensive effort that forced the Lightning into 34 turnovers, the Griffins were able to clear Goldey-Beacom College without much trouble.
Chestnut Hill College (4-3, 1-0) entertained Goldey-Beacom College (2-7, 0-1) in the early going, trailing the visitors 16-14 (1:38) before consecutive baskets from junior forward
Jaeda Wildgoose (Somerset, N.J.) and Tumasz ended the quarter in the Griffins' favor, 18-16. In the second quarter, the Lightning briefly regained their advantage, 21-20 (6:11), only to fall behind by 10 points; Chestnut Hill College's run was sparked on a layup from sophomore forward
Shannon Glenn (Philadelphia, Pa.), and spurred on by a pair of three point baskets from Gibson, 29-21 (2:36), until a Sebold pushed the difference to double digits, 31-21 at 1:55. By halftime the spread reached 13 points, 37-24, on a final possession three from Tumasz. At the start of the second half, the Griffins maintained their defensive intensity, holding the Lightning to just 10 points in the third quarter, 58-34. Chestnut Hill College did not let up on Goldey-Beacom College in the fourth quarter either and maintained a 20-point advantage for the remainder of the affair.
Junior guard Tanner Turner-Rush (Harrisburg, Pa.) headlined the Goldey-Beacom College effort with a 12 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and three steals, while senior forward Britani Bryson (Hampton, Va.) recorded seven points and 14 rebounds.
Tumasz scored her 29 points on an 11-of-19 (.578) shooting effort that included a 6-of-10 (.600) performance from three point range. She also recorded five rebounds and two assists for the Griffins. Gibson totaled 10 points, while Sebold went 5-of-11 (.454) from the field in a 12-point effort that came with three rebounds, six assists, and two steals. Glenn just missed double digits, scoring nine points in excess of five rebounds, three assists, a block, and two steals.
Chestnut Hill College resumes their CACC schedule on Tuesday, December 5, in a 6:00 p.m. Military Appreciation game at Jefferson University.
