Vicky Tumasz (North Wales, Pa.) shot the lights out - 8-of-11 (.727) from the field and 6-of-9 (.667) from three point range – in a 22-point first half that gained the Griffins a 43-31 halftime lead. Wildgoose went to work in the second half and scored five of the Scarlet and Gold's last six points in a heroic 20-point performance.
Tumasz was on from the tipoff with a 13-point first quarter effort that gave Chestnut Hill College (7-6, 3-1) the upper hand they needed to own a 43-31 halftime advantage over Holy Family University (1-10, 0-4). Sophomore forward
Shannon Glenn (Philadelphia, Pa.) hit the first three pointer (3-0 @ 8:37) for the Griffins, Tumasz the next (6-0 @ 7:55), and just three minutes later (4:51) the Scarlet and Gold were up by double digits, 15-4, on her five-point flourish. From there, Chestnut Hill College's lead fluctuated to as few as four points, 15-11 (3:31), and as many as 10 points, 23-13 (1:10), before resting at five points, 23-18, for the first quarter break. Cassie Sebold (Willow Grove, Pa.) pushed the Chestnut Hill College lead to a dozen (12) points, 30-18 (8:15). However, the troublesome Tigers came back within five points, 33-28 (4:09), before the Griffin backcourt found junior forward
Jaeda Wildgoose(Somerset, N.J.) for back-to-back buckets in a 10-3 run to halftime.
Holy Family University finally managed to catch Chestnut Hill College with four minutes (4:02) remaining in the third quarter, 47-46. The Tigers grew their advantage to as many as five points, 51-46 (2:59), prior to a Wildgoose-spirited reprisal that earned the Griffins a 56-53 lead at the final break. Plenty of action remained in the fourth quarter. There, tighter action saw the Scarlet and Gold lead most of the way in a 73-70 end where Wildgoose willed the Griffins to victory with her tenacious paint play.
Sophomore guard Casey Schweitzer (Lagrangeville, N.Y) headlined for Holy Family University, recording 26 points, seven rebounds, two assists and one steal. Freshman guard Jada Smith (Philadelphia, Pa.) helped with a double-double consisting of 10 points and 11 rebounds. Junior center Casey Thomas (Hammonton, N.J.) chipped in 11 points, five rebounds, and two blocks.
Tumasz finished the contest with 25 points on a 9-of-15 (.600) shooting effort. She also recorded four rebounds, one assists, and two steals. Wildgoose added six rebounds and three blocks to her 20 points, while junior guard
Mary Trossi (Somerset, N.J.) offered 10 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.
