Box Score Brookville, N.Y. – (3/11/2017) – Senior attack Tanner Fisher (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) started and ended the scoring in today's thrilling 7-6 East Coast Conference (ECC) overtime victory over #16 LIU Post, as Chestnut Hill College has now defeated the perennial National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)  power three times in eight seasons, and twice in the last two. The Scarlet and Gold recovered from a 4-1 deficit with a third-quarter rally that included the first collegiate goal for senior goalkeeper Thomas McDermott (Ridley, Pa.), who shined in net as well with 19 saves, two ground balls, and a caused turnover.

Chestnut Hill College (2-2, 1-0) was first on the scoreboard with senior attack Alec Dambach (Howell, N.J.) finding Fisher for a goal at 9:30 of the first quarter (1-0). But LIU Post (3-4, 1-1) recorded the next four tallies, ending their first-quarter, three-goal run with a man-up goal at 3:23 (3-1) and scoring just 36 seconds (0:36) before halftime for a 4-1 intermission edge.

The Scarlet and Gold took the field in the second half with a reenergized spirit. Dambach capitalized on it first with an unassisted goal at 12:59 of the third quarter, 4-2. A quick set back put Chestnut Hill College down 5-2 (12:05), but three more individual Griffin efforts; from McDermott (11:01, 5-3), sophomore attack Troy Ellers (Wantagh, N.Y.) (3:26, 5-4), and junior attack Dylan Klusaritz (Slatington, Pa.) tied the game, 5-5, with 9:27 remaining in the fourth quarter. Klusaritz's goal was the first of back-to-back man-up goals for the Griffins, who took the lead just 32 seconds (8:55) later, when senior midfielder Andrew Dooley (Monroe Township, N.J.) connected with freshman midfielder Carson Rees (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) for a goal, 6-5. Unfortunately, the Pioneers were able to answer before the final horn, as sophomore attack Frank Ranfone (Gilford, Conn.) played hero with 2:29 remaining in the contest, 6-6.

The overtime frame saw the Griffin defense at its best, fending off three Pioneer scoring chances and sparking a Dambach-Fisher exchange that captured victory with just two seconds (0:02) left in the extra period, 7-6.

Ranfone led the Pioneers with two goals on 10 shots, and two ground balls. Sophomore midfielder Connor Farrell (Holtsville, N.Y.) won 12-of-15 (.800) face-offs while senior goalkeeper Matthew Liantonio (Miller Place, N.Y.) (3-4) made five saves.

Fisher added a caused turnover to his two goals, while Dambach totaled a team-high, three points (one goal and two assists) in addition to recovering a ground ball. McDermott was the story of the afternoon, contributing to both ends the Griffins' comeback with his unassisted, third-quarter score, and his third game this season of 15 saves or more.

The Chestnut Hill College men's lacrosse team now breaks from competition for a full two weeks, before hosting Dominican College in a 3:00 p.m. ECC Home Opener on Saturday, March 25.
