Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Philadelphia, Pa. – (3/24/2017) – Sophomore catcher Brielle Riotte (Elizabeth, N.J.) went a combined 4-for-6 (.667), driving in five runs and recording eight putouts to lead the Chestnut Hill College softball team to a doubleheader split with Millersville University this afternoon. The Marauders took game one by a 9-0 score, before the Griffins' bats game alive in game two, recording 12 hits in a 7-5 victory.

Millersville University (9-10) wasted no time getting on the board in game one, with senior centerfielder Heather Lutz (Horsham, Pa.) recording an RBI groundout to take a 1-0 lead after the top half of the inning. The Marauders would add one more run in the top half of the second, before exploding for a three-run third to take a convincing 5-0 edge. The visitors opened the inning with a Lutz double, followed immediately by a first-pitch homer from senior first baseman Brittany Smith (Wyomissing, Pa.). Millersville University would tack on an insurance run when sophomore third baseman Morgan Almodovar (Lancaster, Pa.) knocked in junior Megan McCurdy (Woodstown, N.J.) with a two-out double to right field.

The Marauders would score three more in the next inning, with McCurdy blasting a three-run home run on a 1-2 pitch. The visitors would add another run in the top half of the fifth, but junior pitcher Cassidy Pinchorski (Tower City, Pa.) had all the insurance she needed, holding Chestnut Hill College (3-11) to one hit in the bottom of the fifth to secure the run-shortened 9-0 victory in five innings. Pinchorski (4-5) allowed just four hits scattered over five inning in the victory.

Game two saw the Griffins roar out to an early lead then stave-off a furious Millersville rally to secure the 7-5 victory, and doubleheader split. The Scarlet and Gold got on the board early in game number two, with Riotte knocking a two-out RBI single back up the middle, scoring sophomore right fielder Ariel Magee (North Cape May, N.J.).

Following a scoreless second inning, the Griffins continued to show their offensive prowess in the third, driving in three runs during the home half, taking a convincing 4-0 lead. Following a lead-off single, sophomore third baseman Lily Winn (Los Angeles, Calif.) battled hard, singling up the middling following a 10-pitch at-bat. Riotte was once again the engine driving the offense, recording a two-RBI single to extend the Griffins' lead. Senior center fielder Ashleigh Sharp (Dresher, Pa.) providing the other RBI of the inning, smoking a ball back up the middle to drive in a run.

Leading 6-0 heading into the fifth inning, the Griffins looked well on their way to a swift victory. Millersville had other ideas, however, scoring a pair of runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to cut their deficit down to just one, 6-5. The Marauders got a lead-off homer from junior Kaelyn Buskey (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) in the fifth, while her twin sister Raeann Buskey (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) tacked on an RBI sacrifice fly later in the inning to account for their runs. K. Buskey topped her performance from the previous inning, swatting a three-run homer to put the visitors right back in the game. The Griffins were able to tack on an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on a RBI triple from Sharp, setting the stage for an exciting seventh stanza.

With the lead-off runner aboard, Chestnut Hill College starting pitcher, senior Briannen Holloway (Corona, Ca.), gave way to sophomore Nichole Eberhard (Philadelphia, Pa.). With no-outs, Eberhard was able to sandwich a pair of strikeouts around a groundout to second base to earn the save (1) and secure the win for the Griffins.

Riotte led the Griffins with five RBI on the day, going 4-for-6 between the two games. Holloway (2-6) went 6.0 innings, allowing five runs while striking out six before ceding the ball to Eberhard who went 1.0 innings, allowing no hits while striking out two in the save (1).

The Chestnut Hill College softball team returns to action on Tuesday, March 28, in a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader at West Chester University.
