Fisher Leads Chestnut Hill College to 17-9 ECC Victory Over Dominican College

Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa. – (3/25/2017) – Senior attack Tanner Fisher (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) scored a game-high five goals to lead the Chestnut Hill College men's lacrosse team to a 17-9 victory over Dominican College in East Coast Conference (ECC) action this afternoon. Defensively the Griffins were led by senior goalkeeper Thomas McDermott (Ridley, Pa.) who recorded 15 saves in the victory.
 
Chestnut Hill College (3-2, 2-0 ECC) opened the scoring at the 11:54 mark of the first quarter when sophomore midfielder Matthew Anderson (Yardley, Pa.) notched an unassisted marker. The Griffins doubled their advantage just under two minutes later (10:16) when senior midfielder Devan Martinez (Binghamton, N.Y.) found junior attack Dylan Klusaritz (Slatington, Pa.) for the tally. Dominican College (3-5, 0-3 ECC) would answer at the 9:23 mark when senior midfielder Sean Driscoll (Stoney Point, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal. The Scarlet and Gold would not yield, closing the quarter with three straight goals, capped by a man-up tally from senior attack Alec Dambach (Howell, N.J.) to enter the second quarter with a 5-1 lead.
 
The action came fast and furious in the second frame, with Dominican freshman attack Nick D'Alessandro (Levittown, N.Y.) scored off a feed from junior attack Evan Heegan (North Babylon, N.Y.) just 42 seconds into the quarter (14:18). The Griffins would score the next two goals, including Dambach's second of the game, before the D'Alessandro-Heegan connection struck again (12:14) cutting the Griffins' lead to four, 7-3. Chestnut Hill College was able to take control from there, scoring four of the final five goals in the quarter to enter the half holding an 11-4 lead.
 
D'Alessandro notched his third goal of the game 19 seconds into the third quarter (14:41) but the Griffins answered right back, with Klusaritz scoring just 30 seconds later (14:11) off a feed from junior midfielder Joshua Pope (Schnecksville, Pa.). Junior midfielder Chris Heegan (North Babylon, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal to cut the deficit down to six, 12-6, but a Fisher goal off a feed from Pope would send the game into its final frame with the Griffins leading 13-6.
  
The Scarlet and Gold would open the final stanza with Klusaritz finding Fisher at the 13:22 mark to extend the advantage to eight, 14-6. The Chargers would get a man-up goal from freshman attack Michael Reyes (East Meadow, N.Y.) but it wouldn't be enough, as the Griffins would outscore the Chargers 3-2 over the remainder of the quarter to clinch a critical 17-9 ECC victory.
 
D'Alessandro led the Chargers' attack, scoring three goals and adding one assist for four points. E. Heegan notched one goal and two assists while C. Heegan added one goal and one assist. Junior goalkeeper Matthew Sandelier (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) stopped two shots in the loss (3-5) before giving way to freshman John Rooney (Bellmore, N.Y.) (six saves) after the half.
 
Klusaritz led all scorers with six points (2G-4A), while Fisher led the way with five goals on the afternoon. Pope added one goal and three helpers, with Dambach notching a pair of goals. McDermott (3-2) collected 15 saves and three ground balls in the victory, sharing time in goal with freshman Stephen Hogan Jr. (Doylestown, Pa.).
 
The Chestnut Hill College men's lacrosse team returns to action on Wednesday, March 29, when they host ECC rival Mercy College which is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. face-off.
