Box Score Tampa, Fla. – (3/4/2017) – The first of two games in Florida, Chestnut Hill College visited the University of Tampa for this evening's contest. The Griffins received two goals apiece from junior attack
Dylan Klusaritz (Slatington, Pa.) and freshman midfielder
Carson Rees (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia), but fell to the Spartans by an 11-4 final. Klusaritz totaled three points in all, providing an assist on one of Rees' scores while recovering two ground balls.
A connection between senior attack
Alec Dambach (Howell, N.J.) and Klusaritz was a welcomed relief, for Chestnut Hill College (1-1) who trailed the University of Tampa (1-0) by three goals, 3-0, until the first Griffin goal came with 56 seconds (0:56) remaining in the first quarter. Unfortunately, the Scarlet and Gold did not escape the opening period without another blemish as the Spartans struck a fourth time, 4-1, with only two seconds (0:02) left on the first-quarter clock. The home team extended the difference to four goals, 5-1 (12:40) with the first goal of the second quarter. Klusaritz found Rees for a man-up goal at 9:21, 5-2, but three more Spartan goals pushed the margin to 7-2 by halftime.
The second half was scoreless until senior attack Connor Whipple (Tampa, Fla.) scored the University of Tampa's eighth goal, 8-2, of the contest at 4:23 of the third quarter. Senior midfielder
Justin Albarran (Freehold, N.J.) located Klusaritz for his second tally of the contest a little more than two minutes later (2:17), 8-3, but Whipple scored another Spartan goal in the closing seconds (0:04) to take a 9-3 edge into the final frame. There, the home team bookended the last Griffin goal – a second Rees man-up score – to secure an 11-4 win.
Whipple recorded four points (two goals and two assists) and led the Spartans with 13 shots. He also recovered two ground balls. Sophomore attack Andrew Kew (Oakville, Ontario) scored three goals and collected two ground balls for the University of Tampa, while senior defenseman Charlie Cummins (Penfield, N.Y.) offered an assist in excess of three ground balls and five caused turnovers. In goal, senior A.J. Arnold (Southborough, Mass.) (1-0) and sophomore Bryan Karn (Solon, Ohio) split halves. Arnold recorded four saves in the opening 30 minutes (30:00), while Karn totaled seven in the latter.
In addition to Klusaritz, Rees, Dambach, and Albarran, senior attack
Tanner Fisher (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) recorded a point in the contest. Senior defensemen,
Daniel DePasquale (Livingston, N.J.) and
Mark Pascetta (Milmont Park, Pa.) combined for four ground balls and four caused turnovers, while senior goalkeeper
Thomas McDermott (Ridley, Pa.) (1-1) made 15 saves, recovered five ground balls, and caused a turnover in the loss.
The Chestnut Hill College men's lacrosse returns to action on Tuesday, March 7, with a 1:00 p.m. contest at the Florida Institute of Technology.
