Chestnut Hill College Fires on All Cylinders At the University of the District of Columbia, 19-6

Box Score Washington, DC – (4/1/2017) – The University of the District of Columbia (UDC) scored the first two goals of this afternoon's East Coast Conference (ECC) men's lacrosse contest, but the Firebirds flame was quickly extinguished as the Griffins closed the first quarter with a 6-1 run that propelled them to an eventual 19-6 triumph. Senior attack Tanner Fisher (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) scored a team-high four goals and added an assist for his third five-point game of the season. He was complimented by senior attack Alec Dambach (Howell, N.J, who totaled seven points with three goals and four assists.
 
The turning point came midway through the first quarter, when Chestnut Hill College (4-3, 3-1 ECC) erased UDC's (3-5, 1-3) opening two-goal lead with an unassisted score from sophomore attack Casey Brown (Havre de Grace, Md.), 2-1 at 8:37, and a man-up connection between Fisher and freshman attack Carson Rees (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia), 2-2 at 8:07. The Griffins scored two more goals in the run for a 4-2 (6:48) edge that the Firebirds quickly dropped to a one-goal lead, 4-3, at 6:43. Fortunately, the quarter ended with goals from Rees – off the feed from senior midfielder Andrew Dooley (Monroe Township, N.J.) - at 3:14 (5-3) and Brown, who scored his second unassisted goal at 1:45, 6-3.
 
Chestnut Hill College outscored UDC 6-2 in the second quarter, extending their lead to 12-5 for halftime. After the break, four more Griffin goals – including three from Fisher – further distanced the Scarlet and Gold, who owned a 16-5 late third quarter (0:09) lead before securing their third ECC victory by a 19-6 final.
 
Junior midfielder Teilen Celentano (Ottawa, Canada) was the Firebirds' top performer with two quick-strike goals, a caused turnover, and 12 ground balls off a 15-of-25 (.600) success rate in the face-off circle. Four others finished with two points for UDC; sophomore attack Zach Hart (Springfield, Va.) recorded two goals, junior midfielder LeRon Hinton (Woodbridge, Va.) provided two assists, while freshman attack Alan Singleton (Montreal, Canada) and junior midfielder Syrrus Nash (Syracuse, N.Y.) both offered a goal and an assist. Sophomore goalkeeper Nikolas Lund-Murray (New Westminster, British Columbia) (3-5) made nine saves and recovered three ground balls.
 
In addition to Fisher and Dambach, the Griffins received multi-point performances from Rees (three goals), Brown (two goals and one assist), Dooley (one goal and two assists), junior midfielder Joshua Pope (Schnecksville, Pa.) (one goal and one assist), and junior attack Dylan Klusaritz (Slatington, Pa.) (one goal and one assist). Senior midfielder Justin Albarran (Freehold, N.J.), junior midfielder Nicholas Webber (Westwood, Mass.), junior midfielder Gerard Lyle (Baldwin, N.Y.), and sophomore attack Michael DelGiorno (Floral Park, N.Y.) all deliver solo strikes while senior midfielder Devan Martinez (Binghamton, N.Y.) offered an assist. Webber's goal was the first of his collegiate career. Freshman possession control specialist Blake Turner (Tampa, Florida) won 10-of-17 (.588) face-offs while the Chestnut Hill College defense was led by seniors Daniel DePasquale (Livingston, N.J.) and Mark Pascetta (Milmont Park, Pa.), and sophomore midfielder Matthew Anderson (Yardley, Pa.), who combined for nine ground balls and six caused turnovers. Senior goalkeeper Thomas McDermott (Ridley, Pa.) (4-3, 52:25) made 10 saves, recovered five ground balls, and caused a turnover, before being relieved by freshman Stephen Hogan Jr. (Doylestown, Pa.) (7:35).
  
The Chestnut Hill College men's lacrosse team continues its ECC schedule next Saturday, April 8, when they host Roberts Wesleyan College in a 3:00 p.m. contest at the Plymouth Whitemarsh High School Football Stadium.
