Box Score 2 Philadelphia, Pa. – (4/12/2017) – Chestnut Hill College capitalized on an afternoon of strong pitching performances today, Wednesday, April 12, collecting two valuable Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) wins, 1-0 and 2-1, at Philadelphia University. Senior
Briannen Holloway (Corona, Calif.) held the Lady Rams to four hits while a fourth-inning single from sophomore catcher
Brielle Riotte (Elizabeth, N.J.) knocked in the only run needed in the opener. Sophomore
Nichole Eberhard (Philadelphia, Pa.) got some help from Riotte too; she won the nightcap thanks Riotte's fourth-inning, lead-off home run and a fifth-inning sacrifice fly from sophomore third baseman
Lily Winn (Los Angeles, Calif.).
The first three innings of the afternoon passed with one baserunner. Chestnut Hill College (9-19, 7-7) broke the scoreless stalemate in the fourth inning, where a lead-off single to third base from sophomore right fielder
Ariel Magee (North Cape May, N.J.), a sacrifice bunt from senior shortstop
Corie Apodaca (Ontario, Calif.), and back-to-back singles from Winn and Riotte, 1-0. Holloway (6-9) took care of the rest, only surrendering a third-inning walk, a pair of hits in the fourth inning, a single in the fifth inning, and single in the sixth while striking out 10.
Riotte led off the fourth inning of game two with a home run to left center. Senior center fielder
Ashleigh Sharp (Dresher, Pa.) tripled latter in the inning, but the Griffins did not score again on Philadelphia University (15-18, 8-8 CACC) until the fifth inning. That is when a lead-off triple from Magee and Winn's sacrifice fly gave Eberhard (1-5) enough insurance to complete the sweep. Eberhard allowed an unearned run on eight hits and struck out two for her first collegiate win. Sophomore
Jessica Heaton (Berlin, N.J.) recorded the final out for her first collegiate save (1).
Chestnut Hill College continues their CACC schedule tomorrow, Thursday, April 13, when they host Post University in a 2:00 p.m. twin bill.
