Box Score 2 Philadelphia, Pa. – (4/13/2017) – Chestnut Hill College sophomore right fielder
Ariel Magee (North Cape May, N.J.) went a combined 4-for-8 (.500) with two runs scored, three runs-batted-in (RBI) and a pair of extra base hits, as the Griffins dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double header to Post University this afternoon. The Griffins dropped a tightly contested game one, 5-4, before falling in the nightcap, 13-4.
Following a scoreless opening two innings, Post University (11-20, 7-9 CACC) struck first, netting two runs in the top of the frame. A lead-off single from senior right fielder Jessica Grzywna (Philadelphia, Pa.) eventually saw her moved over to third on a one-out bunt. With two down, senior second baseman Natalie Lennox (Landenberg, Pa.) ripped a two RBI single to centerfield to give the visitors the 2-0 edge.
Chestnut Hill College (9-21, 7-9 CACC) responded in the home half of the frame, with Magee blasting a one-out, two-run home run to right center field, driving in sophomore second baseman
Alex Sauer (New Milford, N.J.) to knot the contest at 2-2.
The Eagles would tack on three runs in the top of the fifth to extend their advantage to three, 5-2. The scoring began with a lead-off solo home from senior catcher Kate Dawson (Newfields, N.H.), and was capped by a two-run homer from senior third baseman Kayla Kresley (Alburtis, Pa.). The Scarlet and Gold would not surrender, however, with a pinch hit double from sophomore
Kaya Swanek (Pittston, Pa.) cutting the deficit down to just one, 5-4. That would be as close as the hosts would get, as sophomore pitcher Leslie Denis (Swansea, Mass.) (5-8) would shut the door on a 7.0 inning, four run performance by stranding three Griffins in the final frame. Chestnut Hill College senior pitcher
Briannen Holloway (Corona, Calif.) (6-10) went 4.2 innings, allowing five runs on six hits while striking out three.
Game two saw the Griffins holding a 2-1 edge after two innings, before a five-run third would blow the game open, leading the Eagles to a 13-4 victory. With the Griffins holding a 2-1 lead, the Eagles rallied with two outs in the top of the third, scoring five runs to open up a 6-2 lead.
The Griffins got one back in the home half of the fourth, when Swanek sent a missile over the left field fence to make the score 6-3. Following a two-run top of the sixth for the visitors, the Scarlet and Gold were able to get one back in the bottom of the frame when Magee ripped a ball to third base, scoring senior centerfielder
Ashleigh Sharp (Dresher, Pa.). That is as close as they would come as the Eagles tacked on five more in the top of the seventh inning to secure the 13-4 win.
Freshman Brianna Koref (Springfield, N.J.) picked up the win for the visitors (4-5), going 3.1 innings, allowing three runs on six hits. Sophomore
Nichole Eberhard (Philadelphia, Pa.) picked up the loss for the Griffins (1-6), allowing six runs on five hits in 2.2 innings of work.
The Chestnut Hill College softball team returns to action on Saturday, April 15, when they host the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) in a 12:00 p.m. non-conference doubleheader.
