#3 Chestnut Hill College Falls to #2 Mercy College In ECC Semifinal; 15-3

Box Score Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. – (5/3/2017) – Chestnut Hill College's season came to an unfortunate end today, Wednesday, May 3, as #2 Mercy College defeated the Griffins by a 15-3 final in an East Coast Conference (ECC) Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament semifinal. Junior midfielder Nicholas Webber (Westwood, Mass.) was the Scarlet and Gold's top performer with a pair of second-half scores. Senior goalkeeper Thomas McDermott (Ridley, Pa.) (8-5) did all he could to keep the Griffins in the fight with nine saves and three ground ball recoveries in the affair.
 
Mercy College (12-4) got the jump on Chestnut Hill College (8-5), controlling the face-off circle (15-for-21, .714) and netting the affair's first three tallies in the first quarter. The Mavericks extended their advantage to 7-0 before a second-quarter connection between junior attack Dylan Klusaritz (Slatington, Pa.) and Webber put the Griffins on the scoreboard, 7-1, with 2:51 remaining in the first half. In that time the home team scored twice more, resting the halftime deficit at 9-1, Mavericks.
 
Senior attack Tanner Fisher (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) started the Scarlet and Gold off on the right foot in the third quarter, finishing a pass from junior midfielder Joshua Pope (Schnecksville, Pa.) at 14:44, 9-2. Unfortunately, Mercy College responded a minute later (10-2 at 10:21) and bookended a second Webber (11-3 at 6:07) goal in the third quarter, 12-3, before a three-goal fourth quarter left the final spread at 12 scores, 15-3.
 
Senior attack Daniel Speicher (Seaford, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder Ryan MacSpayden (Toronto, Ontario) led Mercy College with three goals apiece. MacSpayden added two assists to his scores. Graduate midfielder Kevin McNally (Hillburn, N.Y.) recorded a team-high seven points with two goals and five assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Gibbons (Seaford, N.Y.) (12-4) played a majority of the minutes (57:45) for the Mavericks and totaled all 14 of their saves.
 
Webber doubled his season score total with his two scores and did so with only three shots. Fisher led the Griffins in shots with seven. Senior attack Alec Dambach (Howell, N.J.) was a contributor the Chestnut Hill College effort with four ground balls and a caused turnover. Senior defenseman caused three turnovers and recovered two ground balls. Pope added two ground balls and caused a turnover in addition to his helper.
 
Chestnut Hill College finishes the 2017 season 8-5 overall with a 6-2 ECC standing.
