Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (1/16/2018) – Dominican College traveled to Chestnut Hill College tonight in hopes of interrupting the Griffins' current six-game winning streak. But they were met by a monstrous 24-point, 13-rebound double-double from junior forward
Jaeda Wildgoose (Somerset, N.J.) that denied them any hope in an 80-71 Scarlet and Gold victory. The Chestnut Hill College backcourt complimented Wildgoose well in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win as both freshman guard
Cassie Sebold (Willow Grove, Pa.) and senior guard
Vicky Tumasz (North Wales, Pa.) played major roles in generating the Griffins' second-half surge.
Dominican College (5-11, 4-4) took the initial lead over Chestnut Hill College (12-6, 8-1), pacing the home team by as many as 10 points, 21-11 (2:40), before settling for a six-point, 23-17, first-quarter advantage. But in the second quarter, Wildgoose and the Scarlet and Gold defense eventually wore the Lady Chargers down, securing the Griffins a 34-31 halftime advantage after a Tumasz free throw (32-31, 1:43) and a layup from sophomore forward
Shannon Glenn (Philadelphia, Pa.) (34-31, 0:23).
The Scarlet and Gold opened the second half with a seven-point run, expanding their lead to 10 points, 41-31, on a three pointer by senior guard
Vicky Tumasz (North Wales, Pa.) at 8:18 in the third quarter. Despite the double digit margin, Dominican College lingered by six points, 55-49, at the end of the frame. The ebb and flow repeated in the fourth quarter as a Sebold basket just after the six-minute mark (5:50) pushed Chestnut Hill College to another double digit, 65-54, lead, which the Lady Chargers reduced to four points, 72-68 (1:36), before the Scarlet and Gold's game-clinching free throws.
Junior forward Ciera Rivera (Pomona, N.Y) led Dominican College, recording 15 points, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals. She was followed by senior guard Rebecca Rabiero (Midland Park, N.J.), who recorded 14 points, four rebounds, and eight assists. Sophomore forward Jasmine Gee (Englewood, N.J.) chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds while junior forward Alpreshia Parker (Pocono Summit, Pa.) recorded 13 points.
Wildgoose, who now sits just eight points shy of the 1,000-point plateau, was efficient in scoring her 24 points. She hit 9-of-11 (.818) from the field and 6-of-8 (.750) from the free throw line, while adding an assist and a block to her 13-rebound effort. Sebold supplied 22 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals, while Tumasz totaled 18 points, four rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
Chestnut Hill College's journey continues on Saturday, January 20, when they travel to Bloomfield College for a 1:00 p.m. CACC contest.
