Chestnut Hill College Collects Milestone With 91-84 Overtime Win Over Wildcats

Vicky Tumasz (22) and Jaeda Wildgoose (32)
Box Score Newark, Del. - (2/7/2018) – Wilmington University made Chestnut Hill College go the extra frame to collect this evening's milestone prize as the Scarlet and Gold's 91-84 overtime victory over the Wildcats achieved an all-time Central Athletic Collegiate Conference (CACC) season high for wins (12) and matched the program's highest single-season win total since joining the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II in 2007-2008. Senior guard Vicky Tumasz (North Wales, Pa.) led six Griffins in double figures with 22 points and one of three to hit at least three, three point baskets (3-of-9, .333) in the affair, but junior forward Jaeda Wildgoose (Somerset, N.J.) made the game-tying free throws at the end of regulation and the go-ahead basket in overtime.

Sophomores, forward Shannon Glenn (Philadelphia, Pa.) and guard Cailey Gibson (Marlton, N.J.) kept in the contest during the first half. In the second half, Tumasz took over, scoring 10 third-quarter points to gain Chestnut Hill College (16-9, 12-4) a four-point, 60-56, lead heading to the final frame of regulation. There, Wilmington University (6-19, 3-13) paced the Griffins until Wildgoose corralled a rebound and hit a pair of crucial free throws in the closing seconds (74-74, 0:10). In overtime, the Wildcats again led the Griffins. This time, Gibson tied the contest for the 13th time at 80-80 (2:22), before junior guard Mary Trossi (Somerset, N.J.) grabbed a big rebound and connected with Wildgoose twice to put Chestnut Hill College up for good.

Wilmington University offered four players in double figures, including junior forward Nyree Grant (Chestnut Ridge, N.Y.) who reported a 10-point, 13-rebound double-double. She also recorded two assists, four blocks, and two steals. Junior guard Emma Matthews (Smyrna, Del.) led the Wildcats with 22 points, her backcourt classmate Macy Robinson (Wilmington, Del.) totaled 20 points, and freshman forward Jadyn Whitsitt (Fort Washington, Md.) came off the bench for 15 points.

Tumasz added four rebounds, three assists, and four steals to her team-high 22 points. Glenn (3-of-5, .600) and Gibson (3-of-5, .600) were the other two Griffins with three, three points baskets, Glenn finished with 14 points, eight rebounds, and a block, while Gibson totaled 13 points, three rebounds, an assist, and two steals.  Wildgoose also finished with 13 points in excess of her nine rebounds, three assists, and a steal. Freshman guard Cassie Sebold (Willow Grove, Pa.) came off the Griffin bench for 17 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and a block, while Trossi contributed 10 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
