Box Score 2 Philadelphia, Pa. – (3/28/2018) – Chestnut Hill College hosted their first home game of the season taking on their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rivals from Dominican College. The Griffins came in with high spirits, but the Lady Chargers triumphed in both ends of the twin bill, 12-4 (5) and 9-0 (5). Junior catcher
Brielle Riotte (Elizabeth, N.J.) carried the big bat for the Scarlet and Gold in game one, with two doubles and a fourth-inning home run to right center.
Dominican College (7-9, 4-2) scored first with five runs in their second at-bat, 5-0. Chestnut Hill College (0-9, 0-2) answered with a run in the bottom of the frame, thanks to a leadoff double from Riotte, a single from junior first baseman
Alex Sauer (New Milford, N.J.), and a run-scoring ground out from sophomore second baseman
Alessandra Messina (Ambler, Pa.), 5-1. The Griffins cut the Lady Charger lead to 5-2 in their next at-bat with a one-out single and a good hustle from junior centerfielder
Marissa Maioran (Rockaway, N.J.). Then, reduced it to 5-3 an inning later with Riotte's home run. But, the trend continued no further as Dominican College scored seven fifth-inning runs to end the game early, 12-4. Riotte was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a run-batted-in (RBI).
In game two, the Chargers took the early advantage with two first-inning runs, 2-0. They continued to pile on the runs in their following at-bats with one in the second inning, 3-0, three runs in the third inning, 6-0, and three runs in the fourth inning, 9-0. Chestnut Hill College put only one runner in scoring position as Riotte reached second base in the second inning, after a leadoff single to right field and a single to left field from senior right fielder
Jessica Pulis (Baldwin, N.Y.). Unfortunately, a fly to right field and a line out to first base ended the Griffin threat. Junior left fielder
Ariel Magee (North Cape May, N.J.) and Messina were responsible for the other Scarlet and Gold hits.
The Chestnut Hill College softball team continues their CACC schedule on Friday, March 29, with a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader against.
