Box Score Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. - (3/4/2018) – Senior attack
Dylan Klusaritz (Slatington, Pa.) scored six times and located his classmate,
senior midfielder
Joshua Pope (Schnecksville, Pa.) for the first Scarlet and Gold goal of the afternoon, but #17 Mercy College led 5-1 at the end of the first quarter and paced Chestnut Hill College to a 14-8 end for today's decision. Pope added a ground ball and two caused turnovers to his tally, while
sophomore attack
Scott Wilden (Wexford, Pa.) was a factor as well with a goal, two assists, two ground balls, and a caused turnover.
Mercy College (4-1) was first on the scoreboard, netting the contest's first two tallies at 12:56 (1-0) and 12:16 (2-0). The Klusaritz-Pope connection cut the Maverick lead in half at 10:11 (2-1), but Mercy College recorded three more scores before the end of the frame to lead Chestnut Hill College (0-2) 5-1 at the first-quarter break. A sixth Maverick tally at 12:35 of the second quarter made it 6-1 before a pair of unassisted Klusaritz goals reduced the margin to 6-3 with 8:13 remaining in the first half. Unfortunately, that is as close as the Griffins would get with the Mavericks adding a man-up goal just before the six minute mark (7-3, 6:09 2QTR) and keeping their distance in an eventual six-goal difference, 14-8.
Junior midfielder Ryan MacSpadyen (Toronto, Canada) led Mercy College with six points (4 goals and 2 assists) and a ground ball. He got plenty of help from sophomore attack Tommy McPartland (Farmingdale, N.Y.), freshman attack Dominic Scorcia (Franklin Square, N.Y.), and junior attack Bobby Chillians (Bethpage, N.Y.); McPartland finished with two goals, three assists, and five ground balls, Scorcia provided a goal, four assists, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers, while Chillians supplied four goals, a ground ball, and a caused turnover. In goal, junior Ryan Gibbons (Seaford, N.Y.) (4-1) totaled 10 saves and recovered four ground balls.
Klusaritz added three ground balls and a caused turnover to his seven-point affair. Joining Pope and Wilden as his supporting cast was junior attack
Casey Brown (Havre de Grace, Md.), who offered an assist, three ground balls, and a caused turnover. Sophomore
Blake Turner (Tampa, Florida) won 9-of-21 (.429) faceoffs and recovered three ground balls, while senior goalkeeper
Matthew Pedrick (New Milford, N.J.) (0-2) kept the Griffins competitive with 16 saves and two ground balls.
