Box Score 2 Bensalem, Pa. – (4/11/2018) – Today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action brought Chestnut Hill College to Bensalem High School for a doubleheader versus Holy Family University. In game one, the Tigers limited the Griffins to just two hits in a 9-1, five-inning final. Then in the nightcap, Holy Family University's four-run fifth inning propelled them to a 7-2 triumph over the Scarlet and Gold. Junior first baseman
Alex Sauer (New Milford, N.J.) and junior third baseman
Lily Winn (Los Angeles, Calif.) were responsible for the Griffin hits in game one, while junior catcher
Brielle Riotte (Elizabeth, N.J.) went 3-for-3 in game two.
Chestnut Hill College (1-17, 1-10) was on the scoreboard first in game one, using a beaning of sophomore centerfield
Cailey Stevenson (Burbank, Calif.), a sacrifice from sophomore second baseman
Alessandra Messina (Ambler, Pa.), and an infield single from Sauer to score the tally, 1-0. But Holy Family University (4-22, 3-9) answered with three runs in the second inning, 3-1, four runs in the third inning, 7-1, and two in the fourth inning to establish a 9-1 lead over the Griffins. The Scarlet and Gold looked to rally in the fifth inning, but a leadoff walk to Stevenson and a two-out Winn single to the catcher proved fruitless with the final out coming on a ground out to short.
In game two, Holy Family University scored a run in the second inning, 1-0, and third inning, 2-0. Chestnut Hill College cut the lead in half in the fourth inning, where a leadoff double to left center from junior first baseman
Kaya Swanek (Pittston, Pa.), a fielder's choice, a Riotte single to right field, and a Tiger error permitted a Scarlet and Gold run, 2-1. Unfortunately, a four-run fifth inning separated Holy Family University by a 6-1 spread. The Griffins got one run back in the top of the sixth on Sauer's one-out double to left center, 6-2, but the Tigers led off their half of the frame with a home run to reach the 7-2 final.
The Chestnut Hill College softball team continues their CACC schedule on Friday, April 13, when they visit Felician University for a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader.
