Dominican College (10-22, 8-7) took the initial lead in both games of the doubleheader. In game one, both sides scored a run in the first, 1-1, and fourth, 2-2, innings, but the visitors won the sixth inning to hold a 4-3 advantage over Chestnut Hill College (14-14, 10-8). In the latter frames, the Griffins overcame the Chargers with two runs in the seventh inning, 5-3, and four runs in the eighth inning, 9-3. Freshman
Andrew Dietz (Warrington, Pa.) led off the Griffin half of the seventh inning with a pinch-hit single. He was replaced at first base by sophomore
Justin McFadden (Galloway, N.J.), who scored along with senior shortstop
Alec Craig (Hammonton, N.J.) on Owens' two-out single to centerfield. The Griffins' eighth-inning insurance came with a leadoff single by freshman third baseman
Jared Healey (Philadelphia, Pa.), a walk to freshman right fielder
Sam Barletta (Royersford, Pa.), and a Charger pitching change that loaded the bases for a run-scoring beaning of Craig, a run-scoring wild pitch, and a two-run single from junior catcher
Eric Gilham (Deptford, N.J.). On the mound, senior
Patrick Kelley (Pipersville, Pa.) and freshman
Billy Bethel (Yardley, Pa.) grinded, limiting Dominican College to four earned runs on 13 hits and three walks; the latter earned the win (4-1) with four innings of solid relief. Meanwhile the heart of the order – Craig, Gilham, and Owens – combined to go 9-for-13 with five runs and five runs-batted-in (RBI).
Offense dominated the start of game two as Dominican College outhit the Griffins to a 9-4, third-inning spread. But Chestnut Hill College chipped away at the deficit thanks to the play of senior left fielder
Demetrius Isaac (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Gilham, who both recorded RBI doubles in the fourth inning, 9-6, and produced a sixth inning run with to trim the difference to two runs, 9-7, heading to the latter frames. In the ninth inning, the Chargers briefly extended their lead to 10-7, before a three-run Griffin at-bat forced extra innings. Gilham walked to lead off the ninth inning, Owens followed with a single through the left side, a botched fielder's choice at second base then brought Gilham home, 10-8, before sacrifice flies from junior pinch hitter
Eric Small (Downingtown, Pa.) and Barletta tied the affair, 10-10. In the 10
th, Dominican College applied the pressure with a run, 11-10, but in the bottom of the extra frame the Scarlet and Gold rose to the occasion with Craig and Gilham drawing leadoff walks before Owens belted the walk-off double down the right field line, 12-11. Gilham was 2-for-3 with one run and two RBI, while Owens was 3-for-5 with two runs and three RBI. Sophomore
