Eberhard and Barry Dazzle In CACC Sweep at Concordia College

Chestnut Hill College Softball 2018
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Bronxville, N.Y. – (4/21/2018) – Earning their second Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) sweep of the season, Chestnut Hill College used two-out, two-run single from junior left fielder Ariel Magee (North Cape May, N.J.) to overcome Concordia College (NY) in game one, 3-1, and a two-run third inning provided enough support for freshman Julianna Barry (Northridge, Calif.) to earn her first collegiate win (1-3) in game two, 3-2. Barry's stellar pitching performance – no earned runs on 10 hits - followed a gem by junior pitcher Nichole Eberhard (Philadelphia, Pa.) (4-10), who struck out four while holding the Clippers to one run on three hits and a walk.

Chestnut Hill College (5-22, 5-15) broke the opener's scoreless tie in the fifth inning, where a leadoff single from sophomore second baseman Alessandra Messina (Ambler, Pa.), a sacrifice from junior short stop Lily Winn (Los Angeles, Calif.), and a two-out single from senior right fielder Jessica Pulis (Baldwin, N.Y.) put the Scarlet and Gold tally on the scoreboard, 1-0. The Griffins added to their advantage in the seventh inning, using a one-out single from junior first baseman Alex Sauer (New Milford, N.J.), a beaning of junior catcher Brielle Riotte (Elizabeth, N.J.), a Pulis single, a fielder's choice and Magee's single to eventually plate a pair of runs, 3-0. Concordia College (5-17, 3-13) looked to rally in their final at-bat, scoring once before Eberhard closed the door with a pair of ground outs, 3-1.

The Griffins built a lead in game two as well, using Magee's second-inning, one-out triple and a ground out from sophomore centerfielder Cailey Stevenson (Burbank, Calif.) to score a run in the second inning, 1-0, and a pair of Clipper errors to plate two more in the third inning, 3-0. Concordia College closed the gap with a two unearned runs in the sixth inning, but Barry endured the defensive miscue and 10 Clipper hits to earn the win. She struck out two.

The Chestnut Hill College softball team continues a busy weekend of CACC play tomorrow, Sunday, April 22, with a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader at Georgian Court University.
