Box Score 2 Lakewood, N.J. – (4/22/2018) – Chestnut Hill College scored four times in both games of this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) at Georgian Court University, but the Lions defeated the Griffins in each affair as they doubled the Griffins' production in the opener, 8-4, and end the second game early with 13 runs in the first five frames, 13-4. Junior short stop
Lily Winn (Los Angeles, Calif.) (2-for-4) was one of three Griffins to record two hits in the game one and knocked in three runs with a fifth-inning double, while junior catcher
Brielle Riotte (Elizabeth, N.J.) and sophomore first baseman
Kaya Swanek (Pittston, Pa.) both plated a pair of runs in the fifth inning of the nightcap.
Georgian Court University (25-18, 15-6) used four hits and three Chestnut Hill College (5-24, 5-17) errors to steal a 5-0 lead in the first inning of game two. The home team advanced their position with two runs in the second inning, 7-0, two runs in the third inning, 9-0, and a run in the fourth inning. The Griffins looked to extend the contest with five runs in the top of the fifth inning, but the Lions responded three-run homer that ended the game in the bottom of the frame. In the Scarlet and Gold's last at-bat, a pair of Georgian Court University errors set the table for Riotte and Swanek's two-run doubles. Junior first baseman
Alex Sauer (New Milford, N.J.) (2-for-2) was the only Griffin to record multiple hits in the affair.
In game two the Lions built a 6-0 lead with a run in the first inning, 1-0, three runs in the third inning, 4-0, and two runs in the fourth innings, 6-0, but the Griffins attempted to get back in the fray with a four-run fifth inning, 6-4. There, a one-out single from junior right fielder
Ariel Magee (North Cape May, N.J.), was followed by a single to first base from sophomore centerfielder
Cailey Stevenson (Burbank, Calif.), a run-scoring single from freshman left fielder
Devon Horner (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) (6-1), and a two-out, three-run double from Winn (6-4). Unfortunately, the Scarlet and Gold rally did not continue in the latter innings, where the Lions added to their margin of victory with a run in the fifth inning, 7-4, and a run in the sixth inning, 8-4. Magee (2-for-3) and Stevenson (2-for-3) joined Winn with multiple hits.
The Chestnut Hill College softball team resumes their CACC schedule on Wednesday, April 25, with a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader versus Goldey-Beacom College.
