Box Score 2 Philadelphia, Pa. – (4/28/2018) – Prior to the start of today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader with Caldwell University, the Chestnut Hill College Department of Athletics and Recreation honored senior third baseman
Jocelyn Porrino (Lafayette Hill, Pa.), senior outfielder
Jessica Pulis (Baldwin, N.Y.), and senior utility
Jaden Perrillo (Shickshinny, Pa.) for their contributions to the softball program. Unfortunately, the celebration and high spirits were dull with a pair of losses - 12-0, in five inning, and 7-0 - to the visiting Cougars.
Caldwell University (26-16, 20-2) showed mercy for Chestnut Hill College (5-25, 5-18) as they used a pair of lead off walks and a three-run home run to start a seven-run first inning, 7-0. The Cougars added a run in the third inning, 8-0, and four, fifth-inning runs to end the affair early, 12-0. The Griffins had their best chance to spoil the shutout in the fourth inning, where a leadoff walk from junior first baseman
Alex Sauer (New Milford, N.J.), a single to third base from junior left fielder
Ariel Magee (North Cape May, N.J.), and a single to left field from junior catcher
Kaya Swanek (Pittston, Pa.) loaded the bases for Pulis. Unfortunately, the Cougars let her infield fly to drop and completed a triple play to escape the inning.
Caldwell University gradually grew their lead in game two with a run in each of their first three at-bats, 3-0, three runs in the fourth inning, 6-0, and one more in the seventh inning, 7-0. The Griffins struggled to get anything going, but again had their best scoring opportunity in the fourth inning. There, a leadoff single from sophomore second baseman
Alessandra Messina (Ambler, Pa.) and a walk to junior shortstop
Lily Winn (Los Angeles, Calif.) put a runner in scoring position, but the following fielder's choice, strikeout, and fly to centerfield ended the Griffin threat.
The Chestnut Hill College softball team concludes their last season tomorrow, Sunday, April 29, with a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader versus Goldey-Beacom College.
