Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa. – (4/3/2018) – Chestnut Hill College got off to a strong start in this evening's contest with Molloy College, but the Lions scored the last three goals of the opening period and the first five of the second before ultimately holding off the Griffins in a 9-6 conclusion. Freshman attack J.R. Howell (East Meadow, N.Y.) and senior attack Dylan Klusaritz (Slatington, Pa.) combined for five goals, but their gallant efforts were only enough to keep the Griffins in contention with the Lions.

Junior attack Michael DelGiorno (New Milford, N.J.) netted the first goal of the contest for Chestnut Hill College (3-6) just after the 11-minute mark (1-0, 10:55). A little over a minute (9:53) later, Klusaritz increased the Griffins lead to 2-0 and by 6:58 the Scarlet and Gold owned a 3-0 lead thanks to an unassisted score from Howell. Unfortunately, the tide turned quickly as Molloy College (5-4) converted three times (1:59, 0:42, 0:03) in the final two minutes of the frame to tie the affair by the first break. The Lions continued their assault in the second quarter, adding five more scores before Chestnut Hill College could come up for air. The relief came just before the three minute mark (8-4, 3:04), when Klusaritz scored his second goal and later found Howell to reduce Molloy College's advantage to 8-5 (0:58) for halftime. But the scoring slowed in the second half as the Lions nudge their lead to 9-5 (2:42 3QTR) with the lone score of the third quarter and Howell returned the difference to its eventual three-goal measure, 9-6, with his fourth-quarter score at 5:21.

Sophomore midfielder Colin Kotarski (Rocky Point, N.Y.) led Molloy College with three goals and one ground ball, while sophomore attack Gabe Garcia (Miami, Fla.) added two goals Four other Lions reported a goal apiece, while junior midfielder Justin English (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) won 10-of-17 (.588) in the circle and recovered six ground balls. In goal, senior Ryan Toomey (Hicksville, N.Y.) (5-4) made 11 saves, collected five ground balls, and caused a turnover.

For Chestnut Hill College, Howell added three ground balls to his three goals performance, Klusaritz logged one assist in addition to his two tallies, and DelGiorno recovered one goal in addition to his leadoff score. Sophomore Blake Turner (Tampa, Fla.) won 8-of-14 (.571) his chances on the faceoff and picked up one ground ball, while senior goalkeeper Matthew Pedrick (New Milford, N.J.) (2-6) made six saves and grabbed three ground balls.

The Chestnut Hill College men's lacrosse team opens their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) on Saturday, April 7, when they host Dominican College in a 12:00 p.m. contest on the Campus Field.
