Box Score 2 Philadelphia, Pa. – (4/5/2018) –Jefferson visited Chestnut Hill College for an afternoon Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader. The Griffins struggled to get on the scoreboard in the first game, as the Lady Rams limited them to just three hits in a six-inning, 8-0 final. In the second game, the Scarlet and Gold narrowed an early Jefferson lead to 3-2 with a fifth-inning, two-run single from junior third baseman
Lily Winn (Los Angeles, Calif.). Unfortunately, the Griffin rally was quieted in an eventual 4-2 final.
Jefferson University (8-10, 4-2) got on the scoreboard first in the opener, plating two runs in the second inning, 2-0. Junior
Nicole Eberhard (Philadelphia, Pa.) (0-5) them off the scoreboard in the third inning, but ran into trouble in the fourth inning, where a pair of leadoff singles and a pair of two-out singles advanced the Lady Ram lead to 6-0. They added two more six-inning tallies to end the game early, 8-0. Chestnut Hill College (0-12, 0-5) had their best opportunity in the fourth and fifth innings, where respective leadoff singles from junior left fielder
Ariel Magee (North Cape May, N.J.) and junior first baseman
Alex Sauer (New Milford, N.J.) and a pair of failed pick off attempts allowed the Griffins to put a runners in scoring position. Regrettably the Scarlet and Gold was left stranded in each at-bat.
After two scoreless frames, the Lady Rams brought three runs home in the third inning of the second game, 3-0. The Griffins narrowed the gap to 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning, where a leadoff single from sophomore shortstop
Alessandra Messina (Ambler, Pa.), a pair of Jefferson errors, and Winn's two-run single did the damage. But a pop out to the pitcher ended the frame and ended Chestnut Hill College's best chance to catch the Lady Rams in a 4-2 end. Junior
Hunter Irvin (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) provided the Griffins with a solid start, taking the loss (0-2) despite limiting Jefferson to four runs on 12 hits and a walk, while striking out two.
The Chestnut Hill College softball team continues the CACC schedule tomorrow, Friday, April 6, when they complete their doubleheader versus Wilmington University. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
