Box Score 2 Philadelphia, Pa. – (4/9/2018) – Sophomore designated player
Giovanna Lorine (Berwyn, Pa.) was the hero in the first game of today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader, batting in three runs in the a 6-3 victory over Nyack College. Chestnut Hill College was not as fortunate in the nightcap, squandering a 3-0 advantage in a 5-4 Warrior win. Lorine was 3-for-6 with four runs-batted-in (RBI) in the twin bill. Junior
Nichole Eberhard (Philadelphia, Pa.) earned the win (1-6) in the opener, holding Nyack College to three runs on five hits and three walks, while striking out seven in 6.1 innings.
Looking for the sweep, Chestnut Hill College (1-15, 1-8) posted a 3-0 lead after the second inning of game two. There, a leadoff walk to junior first baseman
Alex Sauer (New Milford, N.J.), a single through the left side from sophomore second baseman
Alessandra Messina (Ambler, Pa.), a walk to sophomore shortstop
Kailey Reposa (Factoryville, Pa.) loaded the bases for senior right fielder
Jessica Pulis (Baldwin, N.Y.). She sacrificed Sauer home, 1-0, before a wild pitch scored the second Griffin run, 2-0, and a Lorine single to right center plated the third, 3-0. Unfortunately, Nyack College (7-21, 4-10) evened the spread in the top of the third inning, 3-3. The Scarlet and Gold recaptured an edge in the bottom of the frame thanks to a solo Sauer home run, 4-3, but the advantage was short lived with the Warriors tying the contest in the top of the fourth inning, 4-3, and staying one score ahead of the Griffins in a 5-4 final.
Chestnut Hill College scored first in the opener as well, bringing home two second-inning runs with a one-out single from Messina, a fielder's choice, a Warrior error, and Lorine's two-run, two-out single through the right side, 2-0. Nyack College got one run back in the top of the fourth inning, 2-1, but in the bottom of the frame a two out walk to Reposa got the Scarlet and Gold rolling again. She moved to second base on a Pulis single, and scored a batter later on Lorine single to right field, 3-1. The next two Chestnut Hill College runs were not far behind as both Lorine and Pulis crossed on a single through the right side from junior center fielder
Marissa Maioran (Rockaway, N.J.), 5-1. The Griffins added a sixth run in the sixth inning, 6-1, on a Resposa double, providing Eberhard and freshman
Julianna Barry (Northridge, Calif.) more than enough insurance in a 6-3 final.\
The Chestnut Hill College softball team continues their CACC schedule on Wednesday, April 11, when they visit Holy Family University for a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader.
