Chestnut Hill College (18-22, 13-13) collected a valuable CACC win in their regular season doubleheader with Caldwell University as they scored a 7-4 game-one win over the Cougars. In the fourth inning, a one-out home run from senior first baseman
Kaya Swanek (Pittston, Pa.), 4-1, a walk to senior left fielder
Ariel Magee (North Cape May, N.J.), a double to right field from senior catcher
Brielle Riotte (Elizabeth. N.J.), 4-2, walks to senior right fielder
Alex Sauer (New Milford, N.J.) and junior second baseman
Cailey Stevenson (Burbank, Calif.), and a two-run single to short from senior third baseman
Lily Winn (Los Angeles, Calif.) evened the contest at 4-4. The winning runs came in the fifth inning, where two-out singles from Sauer and freshman designated player
Lily Reid (Texas City, Texas) provided the Griffins a 6-4 advantage. A Riotte solo shot extended the final margin to 7-4. Sophomore
Kaley Wise (Hamilton, N.J.) earned the win (6-6) despite allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks. She also struck out five. Sophomore
Gabrielle Merryman (Sewell, N.J.) earned her first collegiate save (1) with three innings of two-hit relief.
Unfortunately, the Griffins could only celebrate Winn's 100
th career hit in the game two as the Cougars split the twin bill with a 12-8 victory. Winn's milestone hit came with a double in the third inning of game two; the extra-base hit knocked in the second Scarlet and Gold run of the affair and helped the Griffins tie the contest at 4-4. Unfortunately, Caldwell University reciprocated with two runs in the bottom of the inning, 6-4, and outscored the Scarlet and Gold 6-4 the rest of the way in a 12-8 final. Winn, sophomore centerfielder
Devon Horner (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) (2-for-4), and Stevenson (2-for-3) all recorded two hits in the loss. Horner (2-for-4, 1R) and Sauer (0-for-3, 1R) each knocked in a pair of runs.
