The Chestnut Hill College Women's Basketball will play their game before taking a break for the Christmas holiday. The Griffins will travel to West Haven, Connecticut to take on the University of New Haven Chargers.
Charger Gymnasium Athletics Fan Policy
In compliance with the university's policy, all spectators – regardless of vaccination status – must wear a mask inside Charger Gymnasium and all surrounding areas. The University will be implementing a limited capacity policy effective December 2021, with attendance limited to 50% capacity of all indoor spaces. Members of the University of New Haven community will be asked to display their cleared badge in CoVerified prior to entry. Spectators must also maintain 3-feet of physical distancing. Access to the court will not be permitted.
The Series:
Sunday's game will be the fourth meeting between New Haven and Chestnut Hill. The series dates back to the 2016-17 season. The Chargers won the last two times the two teams met and hold a 2-1 lead in the all-time series. The last time the two teams met, New Haven eked out a 66-64 win at Sorgenti Arena.
Non-Conference Action
Chestnut Hill is 5-3 in non-conference games so far this season following their 58-39 win over Mercy College last Saturday afternoon. Chestnut Hill's four other non-conference wins came against St. Thomas Aquinas College on 12/5 (61-52); West Chester University on 11/21 (80-68); Millersville University on 11/17 (66-45) and Queens College on 11/14 (71-67). The Griffins losses were against regionally ranked (#6) Kutztown University on 12/8 (55-60 OT); Bloomsburg, 11/23 (57-63) and Molloy on 11/13 (51-66).

The Griffins enter Sunday's game with a 7-3 record following a 58-39 win at home against Mercy College. The win gave the Griffins a 4-1 record so far in the month of December.
Three players are averaging double figures this season led by
Leah Miller's 16.4 points per game. Miller has played in eight of the Griffins first nine games having missed the last two contests due to an injury. Miller also leads the team with 10.1 rebounds per game and is shooting 77.1% from the free throw line and 52.0% from the field. She ranks among the top five in the CACC in scoring average, rebounds/game and field goals/game. Miller leads the team with four double-doubles.
Emily Chmiel is averaging 13.2 points per game and is third in the CACC shooting 57.8% from the field. Chmiel also is shooting 87.5% from the free throw line (5

Last Time Out
The Chestnut Hill College women's basketball team held Mercy College to just 39 points as they cruised to a 58-39 win Saturday afternoon at Sorgenti Arena.
The Griffins improve to 7-3 overall while the Mavericks drop to 3-6. The 39 points was the fewest allowed by the Griffins in a game this season.
Chestnut Hill's defense also limited the Mavericks to just 28.8% shooting on the afternoon (15-52), the second time in three games that The Griffins held an opponent under 30% shooting.
Bri Hewlett led all scorers with 14 points (4-5 3 pt. FG, 2-2 FT) while
Cassie Sebold added 10.
Emily Sekerak had eight points (4-6 FG) and grabbed seven rebounds in 18 minutes of action, both career highs for the freshman forward.
Emily Chmiel added six points and grabbed a team high eight rebounds.
Lindsey Lane also had six points.
Abbey Spratt led the team with four assists.
Chmiel Named CACC Defensive Player of the Week; Miller Named to CACC Weekly Honor Roll for Third Time
A pair of Chestnut Hill College Women's Basketball players were recognized by the Central Atlantic collegiate Conference for their performance in the Griffins' three games during the week ending December 5 as
Emily Chmiel was named the CACC Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week and
Leah Miller was named to the CACC Women's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll.
Chmiel was previously recognized as the CACC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week for the week ending November 21, 2021 while Miller earns weekly honor roll accolades for the third time in four weeks this season.
As one of the Griffins' first players off the bench, Chmiel grabbed 22 defensive rebounds, had seven blocks and three steals in leading Chestnut Hill to a 3-0 record and a perfect 2-0 conference record to start the CACC portion of their schedule.
For the week, Chmiel averaged 7.3 defensive rebounds, 9.7 total rebounds, 2.3 blocks and one steal per game. She also averaged 11 points per game while shooting 52% from the field (13-25).
Miller scored 54 points and grabbed 33 rebounds in the Griffins' three games. The senior forward shot 59.5% (25-42) from the field and recorded two double-doubles , narrowly missing a third by just one rebound.
For the week, Miller averaged 18.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and one steal per game.

Moving up the Ranks
Early this season,
Cassie Sebold moved into second place on the Griffins' all-time assist list and now has 378 for her career. Sebold also moved into 8
th place on the Griffins all-time scoring list following the Goldey-Beacom game on December 1 and now has 1,082 career points. Sebold needs two points to pass Joanne Sauer '82 for seventh place on the all-time list. She also recently moved into sixth place on the Griffins' all-time list with 146 three-point field goals made.
Leah Miller has moved up to 8
th place on Chestnut Hill's all-time rebound list with 479.
Sebold Joins the 1,000 Point Club
Cassie Sebold made five free throws in the final 1:41 of the game and scored the 1,000
th point of her college career as the Chestnut Hill College Women's Basketball Team overcame a four point fourth quarter deficit and rallied to defeat West Chester University 80-68 on November 21, 2021
Sebold, a senior guard and the team's leading scorer for the 2019-20 season, entered the game needing 15 points to become the tenth player in program history to reach the coveted 1,000-point plateau. She was still eight points shy of the mark as the teams entered the fourth quarter and six points shy as the game entered the final three minutes. Sebold made a driving layup at the 2:59 mark tying the game. The senior guard then went to free throw line three times in the final 1:41. Sebold's first free throw in her final trip to the charity stripe (with 30 seconds left) was the milestone reaching point. She also made the second which provided the final 12-point margin of victory and gave her 16 points on the afternoon.
An Impressive Debut
Freshman
Emily Chmiel came off the bench on Saturday, November 13 to score 10 points and grab a team high nine rebounds in the Griffins 66-51 loss to Molloy. The 6-2 freshman also had three blocks and two steals against the Lions. Chmiel was the Griffins top rebounder the next day grabbing seven boards in CHC's win over Queens while scoring 13 points.

Scouting the Chargers
The University of New Haven is 5-5 overall after snapping a three-game losing skid with a 62-57 win at Bloomfield College Friday night.
With Friday night's win vs. Bloomfield, The Chargers are 3-0 against CACC schools this season with two wins against the Bears and a win against Georgian Court University.
Camyrn Debose leads the Chargers, averaging 16.7 points per game and has a team best 20 steals DeBose is shooting 40.3% from the field and 61.9% from the free throw line.
Brie Pergola is averaging 12.1 points per game and leads the team with 30 assists. She is the Chargers top free throw shooter, hitting 71.1% from the charity stripe.
Aurora DeShaies rounds out the double figure scorers for New Haven, averaging 10.9 points per game. She leads the team with 114 rebounds (11.4/game) and is shooting a team best 52.1% from the field. DeShaies also leads the team with six blocks
Briana Van Cleaf is averaging 5.9 rebounds per game coming off a 13-rebuond performance against Bloomfield. Van Cleaf (4.9 ppg.) and Bionca Chambers (6.9 ppg.) round out the Chargers primary starting five.
Last Time Out for New Haven
The University of New Haven women's basketball team picked up their first win in the month of December, beating non-conference Bloomfield on Friday, 62-57, to break a streak of three losses. The Chargers previously opened the 2021-22 season against the Bloomfield Bears at Moore Field House in New Haven as the team won handily, 63-37.
Senior guard
Camryn DeBose led all scorers in tonight's game with 17 points off 5-14 (35.7%) shooting, while making two of her three attempted shots from deep. DeBose also racked up four rebounds for the second-straight game, as well as a season-high four assists.
Brie Pergola, 6-14 (42.9%), and
Aurora Deshaies, 7-16 (43.8%), both totaled 16 points in the winning effort, with the former going 3-6 (50%) from the perimeter. Deshaies tallied 12 rebounds, her fifth straight game reaching double-digits, to give her a double-double on the night. Despite a dominating effort on the glass from Deshaies, it was
