Philadelphia, Pa. - (9/7/2021) – "We have added some high-quality recruits over the last two years and we have a core of upper classmen, who have developed into experience collegiate student-athletes. The process has awarded us with a great balance of youth and experience at every position," assessed Head Coach
Tim Moyer. "As a CACC (Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference) South team, we know our schedule is extremely tough. But, we also know that Chestnut Hill (College) is going to offer the best team it has ever had!" Inactive during the Spring 2021 CACC season, Chestnut Hill College returns five student-athletes who helped the Griffins to a historical 2019 campaign that saw the Griffins post program-bests in wins (14) and league wins (11).
Most notable among the returnees from the 2019 roster is Coach's Award winner, junior setter/right side
Henielys Ramos (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico). Ramos led the 2019 Griffins in assists (535) and assists-per-set (5.46), while producing 264.5 points (220 Kills, 34 Aces, 20 Blocks). She will have plenty of help in 2021 as Chestnut Hill College features a deep lineup, captained by seniors; defensive specialist/libero
Venessa Caballero (San Dimas, Calif.), right side
Lauren Lipinski (Gilbert, Ariz.), and defensive specialist/libero
Kerri Sullivan (Coatesville, Pa.). Lipinski scored 162.0 points in 2019, providing the Scarlet and Gold with 137 kills, 13 aces, and 23 blocks (1 solo, 22 assisted), while Sullivan was the team leader in aces, ranking sixth in the CACC with 48 points on the serve. Also returning to the roster in 2021 are junior defensive specialist/libero
Bianca Diaz (Humacao, Puerto Rico), sophomore middle hitter
Angela April (Folsom, Pa.) and a pair of sophomore setters in
Mia Caporellie (Downingtown, Pa.) and
Torrin Kelley (Hanover, Pa.)
.
New to the Sorgenti Arena sidelines are freshmen; outside hitter/defensive specialist
Hailey Grotegut (Wilmington, Del.),
Cha'kya Johnson (Greenwood, Del.), and outside hitter/middle blocker
Erika Dubosky (Summit Hill, Pa.), junior transfer
Mikayla Grimes (Reno, Nev./Central State University), and senior middle hitter
Leah Miller (Punxsutawney, Pa.). Grotegut offers a lot of hustle and heart to the Scarlet and Gold's depth, while Johnson and Grimes are a very physical frontline players. Johnson is ambidextrous on attack and a presence defensively, while Grimes brings experience and offers some of the team's hardest-hit balls. They are joined on the front line by Dubosky and Miller. Dubosky is a versatile athlete, who is also a gifted passer and defender. Meanwhile, Miller is a four-year member of the Chestnut Hill College women's basketball team whose height and athleticism will greatly impact the Scarlet and Gold's net play.
Coach Moyer summarized his expectations for the season to come with pride, "We believe we have the potential to be one of the top teams in the conference and we fully anticipate our first CACC postseason berth in 2021!"
The Chestnut Hill College women's volleyball team begins their 2021 season on Tuesday, September 7, when they visit Adelphi University for a 7:00 p.m. opening serve.
