About the Griffins
The Griffins enter Monday's game with a 14-3 overall record following a 55-50 win over Post University, the #10 ranked team in the East region (D2SIDA poll).  Chestnut Hill's 14-3 start to the season and 8-0 conference record is their best record to start a season since joining the NCAA in 1996.

Among the Griffins' active players, Emily Chmiel  leads the team with seven double-doubles (2nd in the CACC and is averaging 12.9 points per game. Chmiel leads the CACC and the East region in total blocks (33) and ranks among the conference top eight in ten additional statistical categories, including blocks/game (1st, 1.9), total rebounds (2nd, 149), free throws made (3rd, 52) and rebounds/game (5th, 8.8).   Chmiel is third on the team with 17 steals and has appeared in all 17 games.  Chmiel has earned CACC Rookie of the Week three times and CACC Defensive Player of the Week twice.

Point guard Cassie Sebold  is also averaging double figures, scoring 10.9 points per game.  She leads the team with 83 assists (2nd in CACC, 14th in NCAA) and is second on the team lead with 19 steals.  Sebold is also second on the team with 17 three-point field goals made on the season, while appearing in 15 of 17 games this season. Cassie is shooting 84.2% from the free throw line (3rd best mark in the CACC)

Lauren Crim  leads the team with 23 three point field goals and is averaging 6.8 points per game.  Crim is also shotting 85.7% from the free throw line which would rank among the top three in the CACC but for lack of minimum free throws made.  Morgan Orloski is third in the CACC in assist/turnover ratio (2.0) although has not seen any game action since December.  Orloski is also shooting 34.8% from beyond the three-point arc, and 43.2% from the field overall.

Bri Hewlett has started the last nine games and scoring double-digit points in seven of the nine.  Hewlett is averaging 6.5 points per game and 3.4 rebounds per game.  She had a season-high eight rebounds at Georgian Court on 1/11 and had seven field goals in CHC's next game, a win over Jefferson on 1/13. Lindsey Lane has started all 16 games and is shooting a solid 43.1% from the field while averaging 4.4 points per game.  Lane has made a season-high six field goals against Georgian Court and Felician.

Kaitlyn Carter has also appeared in all 17 games, starting four.  She has ten steals in Chestnut Hill's last six games and leads the team with 20.  She had a season high 11 points vs. Felician on January 8 and has been a stalwart on defense effectively shutting down the best player in each of the Griffins' last three games for most of the contest.  Her efforts earned her CACC Defensive player of the Week last week.

Last Time Out
Philadelphia, Pa. - Defense was the key as the Chestnut Hill College Women's Basketball team won their eighth straight game, rallying from a nine-point halftime deficit to defeat Post University 55-50 Saturday afternoon at Sorgenti Arena and remain undefeated in conference play.

The Griffins improve to 14-3 and a perfect 8-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games.  The Eagles, ranked #10 in this week's D2SIDA East Region poll, fall to 10-4 overall and 4-2 in league play.  The win was also the Griffins third straight against a region-ranked opponent (then #6 Jefferson last Thursday, #2 USciences on Tuesday and #10 Post this afternoon).

Emily Chmiel recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 23 points and 12 rebounds, both game highs.  The freshman forward also had three blocks on the afternoon.  Bri Hewlett added 11 points and four rebounds while Lauren Crim chipped in nine points and six rebounds.  Cassie Sebold led all players with four assists.

The first half belonged to the Eagles as they shot 58.3% from the field in the first two quarters and jumped out to a nine-point lead 34-25.  Chestnut Hill shot just 33.3% from the field in the first half.
In the second half, the Griffins held the Eagles to just one field goal in the third quarter (1-12) and two in the fourth (2-14) for a combined total of 3-for-26 (11.5%).  The Griffins also out rebounded the Eagles 29-12 in the second half.

Trailing by nine at the half, Chestnut Hill started chipping away at the lead right from their first possession of the third quarter as Hewlett scored the first of two consecutive baskets.  Chmiel added two free throws to complete a 6-0 run and cut the lead to 34-31 with 6:26 left.    Chmiel's layup and one with 1:47 left in the third quarter tied the game at 38-38.    Post added three free throws in the final 75 seconds to lead 41-38 heading into the final quarter.

Crim tied the game with a three-point bucket just 40 seconds into the quarter and following an offensive foul by the Eagle Chmiel hit a short jumper to give the Griffins their first lead since midway through the first quarter, 43-41.   Another Crim basket pushed the lead to four 45-41 before the Eagles scored four straight to tie the game again at 45-45 midway through the quarter.  Three CHC free throws pushed the lead to 48-45.  After an Eagles basket Hewlett hit a big three-point bucket with 1:58 left to again give the Griffins a four-point cushion 51-47.  Chmiel added a layup with 29 seconds left to make the score 53-47 and after three free throws by the Eagles, Chmiel scored her final points of the afternoon with just two ticks on the clock to seal the win.

Last Time Out for College of Staten Island
Staten Island, NY The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball team suffered another horrible loss this evening when they fell to the Firebirds of the University of The District of Columbia by a score of 42-62. The loss drops CSI to 3-11 overall and 1-6 in ECC play. The Dolphins will head to Chestnut Hill College this coming Monday.

The Dolphins had only 1 double-digit scorer in the game: Ashley Lambert scored 21 points to lead the way. Brianna Moore did however grab 11 rebounds off the glass tonight. CSI only shot 27.8% from the floor and 32% from the three-point line.

The Firebirds started off the game strongly and that continued for the entire game they never lost the lead. UDC went on a 7-0 run to start the game off. CSI did attempt a comeback they brought the game within four points going into halftime. However, the Firebird's lead only grew the rest of the way as the Dolphins failed to mount another second-half comeback in the twenty-point defeat.
