Track and Field Teams Volunteer at Special Olympics Unified Sports Event at Local School

The women's and men's track and field teams used some of their time during conference championship we to give back to the community.   The teams paired with Springfield Township High School Special Olympics Unified Sports for a volunteer event at the high school last Wednesday spotlighting some amazing athletes.

"Junior, Carly Morginstin, was the lead organizer for this event and I am so happy that she introduced us to Unified Sports, said Head Coach Maria Stickley.  During Championship week, or post season, we really like to use that as a time to give back to the local community or volunteer. In the Fall we worked with Girls on the Run and now this Spring, Unified Sports.

In helping to organize the event, some team members served as javelin officials, timers, relay zone officials, and cheerleaders during the competition.  Members of the team all provided encouragement and support to all the athletes who competed.

"I think the whole team agreed that this really put into perspective how beautiful the sport of track and field is because of its inclusion," adds Stickley.  " It was truly amazing to see these athletes put their heart and soul into their races, relays, and throws, just like we do every weekend. Unified Sports will definitely be a volunteer event we will look forward to next year!"
