Two members of the Chestnut Hill College Women's Volleyball team were named to the 2023 College Sports Communicators Women's Volleyball Division II Academic All-District® Team in an announcement by the CSC Academic all-America® Committee.
Named to the Academic All-District team were senior
Torrin Kelley and redshirt junior
Mia Caporellie. Kelley and Caporellie become the first Chestnut Hill women's volleyball players to repeat as Academic All-District honorees. The two stellar student athletes also join Regina Trabosh (2016-17) and
Henielys Ramos 92022-23) as the only volleyball players in program history to be named to a CSC (CoSIDA) Academic all-district team.
The 2023 Academic All-District® Volleyball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field or court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes volleyball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
To be eligible for Academic All-District® accolades, student-athletes must be at least at sophomore athletically and academically, appear in 90 percent of their team's contests or start in 66% and have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or better. Graduate students must have a 3.50 cumulative GPA in both their undergraduate and graduate programs.
Caporellie recently completed her third season as a member of the Griffins volleyball program. She was named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference all-conference team for the second consecutive year, earning third team honors as a setter. She produced another stellar season, eclipsing the 1,000 assist mark for the second straight year and leading the Griffins to their second consecutive CACC Tournament berth, their first ever home playoff game and their first ever CACC Tournament victory She ranked second in the conference in total assists (1001) and service aces (61). Over the course of the season Mia earned CACC Setter of the Week honors four times and was named to the weekly honor roll once.
A business administration and management major with a minor in accounting, Caporellie has earned Dean's List and Athletic Academic Honor Roll accolades in every semester as a student-athlete at Chestnut Hill. She was named to the Philadelphia Academic All-Area Volleyball team last season and the CACC all-Academic team in each of the past two seasons. In the spring of 2023 Caporellie was inducted into Chi alpha sigma, the national student athlete honor society and Sigma Beta Delta, the national business honor society.
Kelley was one of the Griffins' defensive specialists during the 2023 season, appearing in all 28 matches. She was fifth on the team with 22 service aces and 196 digs.
A double major in forensic chemistry and forensic biology, Kelley is a two time CACC Volleyball All-Academic Team honoree. She was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma in the spring of 2023 and is also a member of the Sigma Zeta Honor Society. Kelley has earned Dean's List and Athletic Academic Honor Roll accolades in every semester as a student-athlete at Chestnut Hill.
Academic All-District® honorees are reviewed by a group of Academic All-America® committee members for consideration for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® national ballot, where first, second and third team Academic All-America® honorees are chosen by the CSC Division II membership and the Academic All-America® core committee. Honorees will be announced in December.
