Sydney Watts and
Anastasia Watson set school records as the Chestnut Hill College opened their track and field season at the Frank Colden Invitational at Ursinus College on Saturday.
The meet was the Griffins' first indoor competition since the 2019 season.
Watts started the day by breaking the indoor school record for the 5,000-meter run. The sophomore distance runner completed her race in 20:03.08, shattering the old record of 22:36 set back in 2014 by Sam McCarthy on the very same track. Watts finished tenth overall
Later in the day, Watson broke CHC's indoor record for the shot put with her very first toss of 9.14 meters (30'). Her throw eclipsed the old mark of 8.64 meters set by Laura Lupin at the 2019 Frank Colden meet.
Senior
Lilly Short made her indoor debut with a time of 6:27.21 in the mile run while freshman
Rebecca Dalton made her collegiate track and field debut in the same event, finishing with a time of 6:05.28
The Griffins' only athlete to compete in two events also was making her collegiate debut.Â
Solanje James opened her day by placing fourth in her heat in the 60-meter dash with a time of 9.07 seconds. James later competed in the 200-meter dash, finishing third in her heat with a time of 31.14 seconds.
The women's track and field team returns to action at the Garden State Games at Ocean Breeze in Staten Island, New York on February 17.
