Anastasia Watson picked up where she left off at the conclusion of last year's Central Atlantic collegiate conference championship, as the defending CACC discus champion, turned in a top ten performance at the Monmouth Invitational to open the Griffins' outdoor track and field season.
Watson's toss of 38.26 meters (125'6") placed her ninth overall. Her toss was also the top throw among all NCAA division II East Region discus athletes  so far in the 2023 season and qualified her for the 2023 CACC championship. Her mark was nearly 28 feet better than the conference qualifying standard.
Joining Watson as a CACC Championship meet qualifier was
Sydney Watts. Watts ran a personal best time of 19.44.61 in the 5,000-meter run bettering the conference qualifying standard by nearly two minutes. She finished 24
th overall.
Making their outdoor season debuts for the Griffins were
Solanje James in the sprints and
Rebecca Dalton at 1,500-meters.  James turned in a time of 13.89 seconds in the 100-meter dash and a time of 29.08 in the 200-meter dash.  Dalton finished the 1,500-meter run in 5:32.55.
Lilly Short joined Dalton in the 1,500-meter race, finishing in 5:52.79
 The women's track and field team returns to action for the Towson invitational held in Towson Maryland on March 31 and April 1.
