A pair of Chestnut Hill College men's lacrosse players have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® Men's At-Large Team in an announcement made by the organization and the CSC Academic All-America® committee.
Named to this year's men's at-large academic all-district team were junior
Chase Snyder and sophomore
Sam Slater.
The 2022-23 Academic All-District® Men's At-Large Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes women's and men's at-large honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. At-large honorees represent sports that the CSC Academic All-America® program does not honor with their own separate team.
To be eligible for Academic All-District accolades, student-athletes must be in at least their second year at their institution, appear in 50 percent of their team's contests, be a starter or significant reserve and have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or better. Graduate student's undergraduate g.p.a. along with their graduate program g.p.a. must both be 3.50 or above.
The two lacrosse players are just the fourth and fifth players in program history to earn academic all-district status, joining Dakota Maurer (2012-13), Carson Rees and Zach Ornstein (2020-21). Ornstein later earned Academic all-America honors, the last Chestnut Hill athlete to do so.
Snyder and Slater helped lead the Griffins to their third consecutive Central Atlantic collegiate Conference Tournament Championship with Snyder being a member of all three title teams and Slater the last two.
The duo are both CACC All-Academic team honorees while Snyder was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, the national student athlete honor society earlier this month. Both athletes have earned Dean's List honors multiple times while at Chestnut Hill.
A business administration and management major, Snyder was a D2 Athletic Director's Association (D2ADA) Academic Achievement Award winner for 2021-22. As the 2023 season concluded he was named to the CACC all-conference team as a long-stick midfielder for the second consecutive year. Snyder was second on the team in ground balls and caused turnovers, with at least one caused turnover in 14 of the Griffins' 15 games.
Slater also played in all 15 games and was second on the team in goals and points. Over the course of this season, slater had four four-goal games and five five-point games, earning CACC Weekly honor roll accolades twice. A psychology major, Slater was also inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta, the national freshman honor society in spring of 2022.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in mid-June.
