Watts Named to the CSC Women's Track and field/Cross Country Academic all-District Team

Chestnut Hill Women's Track and Field and Cross Country runner Sydney Watts was recently named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Division II Academic All-District® Men's Track and field/Cross Country Team in an announcement made by the organization and the CSC Academic All-America® committee.

The 2022-23 Academic All-District® Women's Track and Field/Cross Country Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes women's and men's track and field/cross country honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

To be eligible for Academic All-District accolades, student-athletes must be in at least their second year at their institution, appear in 50 percent of their team's contests, be a starter or significant reserve and have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or better.  Graduate student's undergraduate g.p.a. along with their graduate program g.p.a. must both be 3.50 or above.

Watts was recently named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate conference all-Academic team and was inducted into Sigma Zeta, the National Mathematics and Science Honor Society in May of 2023.  The sophomore health sciences major earned Dean's List honors for the second time in the spring of 2023 and was also named to the CHC Athletic Academic honor roll in each of her first three of her first four semesters at Chestnut Hill.

The sophomore runner earned CACC all-conference honors for cross country as a freshman and narrowly missed repeating last season with a 16th place finsh at the conference championship. Competing in her first indoor season in 2023, Watts broke the school record for the 5,000-meter run and was part of the school's record setting 4x800 meter relay team.  She also qualified and competed in the 1,500 and 5,000-meter races at the CACC outdoor Championships last month.

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in late June.
