Griffins Named an ITA All-Academic Team as Nine Men's Tennis Players Earn ITA Scholar Athlete Honors

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association has announced their 2024 ITA Division II Men's Academic Awards with 78 programs earning Men's All-Academic Team honors and a total of 543 athletes designated as  ITA Men's Tennis Scholar Athletes.
 
In order to be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete a tennis player must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year and be listed on the institutional eligibility form.  Programs earn ITA all-Academic Team honors by having a team grade point average of 3.2 or better.
 
The Chestnut Hill Men's Tennis team was one of the 78 teams honors as an ITA all-Academic Team.  This year's honor is the eighth consecutive year that the Griffins have earned the honor and also the ninth time in the last ten seasons dating back to 2015  that the Griffins have earned ITA all-Academic Team status. As a team, the Griffins produced a team g.p.a. of 3.68 for the 2023-24 academic year.

The Griffins are also just one of two Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) teams and seven East Region teams to be recognized as a Division II All-Academic Team this season.
 
In addition to the all-Academic Team honors, nine Chestnut Hill Men's tennis players earned ITA Scholar Athlete recognition, led by seniors  Noah Cutting and Joao Sousa. Sousa becomes the first Griffins player in program history to earn ITA Scholar Athlete four times while Cutting becomes a three-time honoree.

Joining Cutting and Sousa as ITA Scholar Athletes for 2023-24 are seniors Marcello Bozzone and Pedro Vicente, junior transfers  Menno Raeymaekers and Arnaud Vangenechten, sophomores Antonio Franquis and Tiago Lima and freshman Filippo Relecom.

All nine honorees are Business Administration and Management majors at Chestnut Hill with Sousa sporting a dual major in both Business Administration and Management and Accounting.

In June, Sousa became the first Chestnut Hill athlete to earn the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors in their respective sport three times, with his selection to the 2023-24 team. At the CACC Men's Tennis Championship banquet, Sousa, was named the winner of the CACC's Top XVII Award for the second consecutive year. The award is given to the athlete who has the top g.p.a. among those competing at the conference championship site.

Sousa is also a two-time Philly-SIDA  Men's Tennis Academic All-Area team honoree and has been named to the CACC all-Academic Team three times.  In the spring of 2023, he was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, the national student athlete honor society and Sigma Beta Delta Honor society (business). He graduated summa cum laude in May.

Cutting also earned CSC Academic All-district team honors, one of four Griffin Men's Tennis players to do so. The senior athlete was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma in 2023 and has earned CACC all-Academic Team honors twice. Cutting also graduated in May with a Bachelor of Science degree.

Franquis earns his second ITA Scholar Athlete honor this season.  He joins souse, Cutting and Lima as the four Griffin players to earn CSC Academic All-district honors this past June. Franquis has also earned Dean's List and CHC Athletic Academic honor Roll accolades in each of his first four semesters as a Griffin.

Bozzone is also a two-time ITA Scholar Athlete honoree and was one of three Griffin players inducted into Chi Alpha sigma in April.  He was named to the CACC all-Academic Team for 2023-24 and has earned Dean's List and CHC Athletic Academic honor roll accolades in each of his first four semesters at Chestnut Hill after transferring into the school for the Fall 2022 semester. 

Lima is one of five Griffin players to earn their first ITA Scholar Athlete Award this year.  The sophomore athlete has earned Dean's List and CHC Athletic Academic honor Roll accolades twice in his first four semesters as a Griffin.

Vicente transferred into Chestnut Hill in the fall of 2022 and earns ITA Scholar Athlete honors for the first time.  He, along with every one of his teammates were named to the CACC Academic Honor roll is both semesters during the 2023-24 academic year.

Raeymaekers and Vangenechten transferred into Chestnut Hill for the fall 2023 semester.  Both athletes were named to the CHC Athletic Academic honor Roll and Dean's List in both semesters during the 2023-24 academic year,.

Relecom, a true freshman, completed his first season with the Griffins in 2023-24.  He was also named to the CHC Athletic Academic honor Roll and Dean's List in both semesters this academic year.
