Student Athletes Excel in the Classroom

Philadelphia, Pa.—The academic achievement of Chestnut Hill College student-athletes continued to set remarkable new post-pandemic benchmarks during the Fall 2025 semester. The department's latest set of academic data for its 19 varsity sports programs that fielded a team in the Fall showed that Griffin student-athletes are continuing to raise the bar for their continued academic success
 
Commitment to academic excellence is truly a team-wide pursuit. During the Fall 2025, 16 of the varsity sports programs compiled a team GPA above a 3.0 with 13 of those 16 recording a team g.p.a. of 3.30 or better.. The overall grade-point average for the more than 320 student-athletes during the Fall semester was a lofty 3.327, marking the 22nd straight grading period spanning over a decade that Chestnut Hill Athletics has had a department GPA above a 3.0. It is also the fourth consecutive semester that the student-athlete GPA has been higher than a 3.2 and the highest mark since the spring of 2020 during the pandemic when classes were online. (3.41).

The women's tennis  team had the highest GPA at 3.941 while the men's tennis team boasted the highest men's GPA at 3.464.  Six other sports had a team GPA above a 3.5 in Fall 2025, including the women's lacrosse team (3.715); women's softball (3.665) women's soccer (3.655); women's basketball (3.593); women's cross country (3.565); and women's track and field (3.530).   In all there were ten programs that had a team GPA of 3.40 or better.

 
From an individual standpoint, there were a record 39 student-athletes representing 15 different teams who posted a perfect 4.0 GPA in the Fall semester. The women's softball and women's lacrosse teams led the way with six athletes apiece. Women's basketball, baseball, and sprint football each had five.   More than two-thirds of the varsity sports programs (13 of 19) had multiple 4.0 student-athletes on their active rosters during the Fall semester. On a wider scale, 76.4 percent of all student-athletes posted a GPA above a 3.0 for the semester and 54.6 percent recorded a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher.
 
The Chestnut Hill Athletic Academic Honor Roll is an accolade given to those student-athletes who achieve a GPA of 3.50 or better for the semester.  This fall, a record number of student-athlete were named to the Athletic Academic honor Roll (178)

The release of academic data from Fall 2025 is the latest recognition for Chestnut Hill student-athletes for success in their academic pursuits. Last November the NCAA released its most recent Academic Success Rate data in which Chestnut Hill Athletics reported a mark of 90% for the fourth consecutive year, earned the Division II President's award for Academic Excellence. Chestnut Hill was one of only 43 Division II schools nationally to record an ASR of 90 or above.
