Indianapolis, Ind. – Chestnut Hill College has been recognized as one of 43 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) institutions to receive the 2025 Division II Presidents' Award for Academic Excellence. The Presidents' Award honors NCAA athletic programs with four-year Academic Success Rates of 90 or greater. This year's honor marks the fourth consecutive year, and the sixth time the Griffins' athletic program has received this prestigious award.
The Presidents' Award is given to schools that achieve a four-year ASR of 90 percent or higher. It is the 15th year of the program. The ASR is the percentage of student-athletes who graduate within six years of initial collegiate enrollment and includes virtually all Division II student-athletes that participate in NCAA sponsored sports, including transfers and those not receiving athletic scholarships.
The Griffins are tied for 36th in Division II for Academic Success Rate (ASR) at 90 percent (2015-18 cohorts) which also ranks among the top 12% of all Division II programs. The Chestnut Hill College athletic program has been submitting ASR data to the NCAA since 2008-09. In the 15-year span from 2009-2025, the Griffins have compiled an average ASR of 87%. Chestnut Hill was among four programs from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference to earn the President's Award for Academic Excellence.
Even when using the less-inclusive federal graduation rate, Chestnut Hill College student-athletes are outperforming their peers in the general student population by 15 percentage points for the 2018-19 cohort (64%-49%). When the four-year average for cohorts 2015-18 is considered, Chestnut Hill athletes outperform the school's general student population by 13 points (71%-58%). For all NCAA Division II student-athletes, the federal rate is 58%, while the general student body federal rate is 53%.
Six of the Griffins' 17 NCAA sponsored programs achieved a four-year average ASR of 100 with eight additional programs sporting a four-year ASR between 86-92. The women's softball team has recorded an average ASR of 100 in each of the past 15 years to lead the way for the Griffins. The women's volleyball team has a 100 ASR score for the eighth consecutive season while the women's tennis team has reached an ASR of 100 in six straight years. Women's bowling had their first ASR rating in 2015-16 and have recorded a score of 100 in every season (four consecutive) since then. Men's Tennis also has had four consecutive seasons of a perfect ASR score while the women's basketball team has scored 100 for the second straight season.
Among all NCAA Division II teams, Emmanuel (Georgia) was the top performer, earning an ASR of 100%, followed by Hillsdale with an ASR of 99%. Bentley and Rollins each earned an ASR of 98%, and Augustana (South Dakota) rounded out the top five with an ASR of 96%.
