Senior Sydney Watts began her season in style, breaking a school record as the Chestnut Hill College Track and Field Teams kicked off their 2025 season on Friday, competing at the Scarlet Knight Open at the New York City Armory in Bronx, New York.
Watts broke her own indoor school record at the 5,000-meter run placing 25th overall with a time of 19:55.99. Watts was also the third non division I runner to finish. Her time broke her own record of 20:03.08 set at the 2023 Frank Colden Invitational.
Rebecca Dalton led four Griffin runners competing in the mile run, later in the day, finishing with a time of 5:53.17. Gabby Hassler followed with a time of 6:29.71. Grace Mott and Soleil Casseus made their indoor track collegiate debut in the event, finishing with times of 6:33.63 and 6:37.73 respectively.
Mott also led three Griffin runners competing at 400-meters with a time of 1:09.01. Hassler followed with a time of 1:10.69 while DeAnna Otero finished in 1:15.09.
Otero also competed in the 60-meter dash, completed the event with a time of 9.0 seconds.
On the men's side, the Griffins had three runners competing at the meet. Ryan O'Hara and Rudy DelPrete competed in the 5,000-meter run, finishing with times of 19:34.91 and 20:55 respectively.
Donald Bonham rounded out the men's competitors, competing in the unseeded 60-meter dash and finishing with a time of 7.65 seconds.
The track and field teams return to action on February 14 and 15 competing at the Widener University Indoor Classic.
