Watts Wins 5,000 Meter Run as Griffins Begin Outdoor Competition

Sydney Watts continues to turn in solid performances on the track, winning the 5,000 meter run as the chestnut Hill college Women's Track and Field team opened their outdoor season at West Chester University's Purple and Gold Invitational.

Watts completed the race in 18:56.44 to take home first place and qualify for the Central Atlantic collegiate Conference championship meet to be held in May.  Her time was 12 seconds faster than her nearest competitor and she bested five conference runners who were also competing in the event.

Erin McCarthy opened her season with an eighth place finish in the javelin with a toss of 26.51 meters (87'0") to record Chestnut Hill's only other top ten finish.

Gabby Hassler placed 13th in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 23:26.06 while Rebecca Dalton was 18th in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 5:29.90.  Soleil Casseus rounded out the Griffins' competitors, placing 29th in the 1,500 with a time of 6:09.59.

The women's track and field team returns to action for the Danny Curran Invitational at widener University on March 28-29, 2025.
